How to get freight directly from shippers

I'm trying to obtain frieght directly from a shipper. I've been carrying brokered freight and ran for FedEx CC for a while, but I really want to work directly with a shipper. Where can I find shippers who have freight or open contracts available? I have my own insurance and authority and am ready to roll. I just can't find the freight! I am based out of NC. I've got a 24' straight truck with a sleeper. Anyone have any advice?

unless you develope relations with companys that you want freight from your going to be fighting a losing battle.ps maybe if you bid on loads you might have a chance but companys don't like to take risks on unknown carriers or (mama&papa)carriers.;) :( ;)

You are likely better off to look for a dedicated regional run. Many companies require a audit certification which is expensive. With one truck, you can't provide any service once you are loaded. Most companies will have little patience for that level of service.
The expected rate for a regional run will be less than a expedited service rate.
The other option is to get with a carrier and run under their authority if available. Panther has a program already for this.
With that, you could haul their loads, find your own, and take advantage of fleet prices on insurance ect.
Just something to consider unless you have to stay regional.
