Hey I thought I was the only one watching the grass grow under my truck in the Detroit area. The last time I checked, I have 15 trucks within 50 miles of me, I got to get out of here.

Dean: that's a tough one, since "your area" can go from hot to cold (and vice versa) overnight. Plus, you'd get different replies from different size units, with different carriers, too.
Driving solo in a D unit, my worst week so far this year was 887 miles, the best was 2490, and the avg is around 1500 per week.
And yes, that's what I call s l o w! I'd like to get 2500 miles EVERY week:D
PS Those psychic hot lines don't work....:p

I wish I was in Detroit because that would mean I would only be 250 miles from home and I would be on the way to the house. I've been out a month and I'm getting a little homesick. If I can get a load to within 300 miles I'll probably just head home from there.

If I had a sprinter or any other B unit I'd kill myself.Every expedite company is loaded with B units, even when freight is busy, you will be slow. Its the competition,To many trucks, not enough freight

And there are 10 companys on the front page looking for B units. Must be to replace the ones going bankrupt. I know of two vans that were repoed in 6 months, Talked to the guy that was buying them in Nov. He told me about all the money he was going to make and he hardly lasted 6 months.

Steve,
stop rubbing it in :), we are all.... well happy for you.....:D

If I had a tractor in this area, I would be moving all the time - even container freight but...... no tractor.

Greg ,not trying to rub it in,but the same post keeps comming up.There is but one thing to do when your not getting offers, find a place that you will, whether authorized or not, meaning paid or not.No matter what size truck, the best place to get loaded is an express center with a lack of trucks

Steve, don't take this wrong but out of all the people who claim to be the most versatile (if you remember that thread on versatility?), an E unit is most definitely the way to go, especially if you can keep the mileage up and you prove it.

Oh by the way, back to back runs today, tomorrow out of hours when I deliver - go figure.

I just got something out of the west coast, believe it or not. I had to deadhead from Vegas to San Diego, but I got something heading to Nashville. I think I'll just drop in Nashville and deadhead home because I haven't seen my house or my wife in a month.

Thats a very broad stoke of the pen there Steve....

Yes..it's a killer for a new vanner out there, myself I wouldn't want to be a newbe right now...the more experienced ones will "work the system" . Been bumping into some of the old crew and they are using every trick they know to keep rolling..BUT the freight IS there...Its like playing tag.

well for me being in the Toronto area things seemed to have picked up quite a bit. I've only had the weekends (not this one, did 400mi) and a couple of other days where I did little work and have had 900 miles/week avg including DH and paid about $1.30 for all. So actually it has been profitable. Although several days did not appear on the surface to be such.

I credit the company for their on going efforts in increasing the customer base and trying to share the work around the fleet with our ability to keep the fleet intact thru the last year (except newbies not working out). They have really made an effort in the last 6 months of trying to get more work by doubling efforts in that area of business.

While I'm not getting the long hauls that I love I am getting high dollar short runs with lower DH so I'm being paid for more miles - bonus.

As for the industry the second half of the year should be a slight improvement in the whole situation (I believe). We are seeing a few industries picking up a little so more work.
