Hello from QLD, Australia ! Have studied a few threads on your forum the last couple of nights, and found quite a bit more information on my motor
Thanks.
Firstly my name is Edwin, and Im an owner operator here on the sunny gold coast. I have a Sterling LT7500 tipper truck, bogie drive, fitted with the Cummins ISC8.3 caps motor @ 260. I deliver rock, roadbases, etc etc. The truck is gross weight 22.50Tonnes. And, is fitted with an Allison auto tranny.
Truck is 6 this year (2004) model, has just clicked up 215xxxkms (133xxx+miles), but nearly 11000 engine hrs. (we do a lot of onsite work too). So far I had only replaced the fuel pump, (last year), & the usual incidentals. Until now...
Save a long story, she dropped a valve yesterday
Both exhaust valves went into the piston (#6 worst luck), & both intake valves into the head. I am up for a reco head, turbo, injector x 1, was only going to do the one liner, piston, rings etc on #6. I am worried however, about the camshaft. Our company had 3 of these trucks the same spec. One of them too, dropped a valve (at maybe 200 000ks, and 8000hrs). And both the others did camshafts. A knowledgeable fellow here says that this motor had heaps of problems with camshafts and or lifters, mainly to do with the hardening on them. Apparently the cams were harder than the lifters to start with, then cummins changed them around, and the lifters were harder than the cams!!
Anyhow, just after any information you fine men (and ladies if there are any), have on these motors. Whether or not you've heard them doing any of the things mentioned etc etc. Any information welcome ! Thanks !
