Thanks - yeah it seems like there are a couple of different threads there .... good info for coming up with a low-budget solution maybe ....... if I can wire the Heater Booster to work manually off a regular switch (DC makes one for this apparently) and then get the REST function to work longer than 20 minutes it might be enough to keep it above freezing ....... ;)

I have a remote starter for my van. When I go to bed I crank up the heat (also have a rear heater because it used to be a passenger van). I mounted the rear heat control right over my head in the bunk. My remote starter has a setting that starts up the truck for 24 minutes every 3 hours. When I go to bed I start the cycle and fall to sleep nice and toasty. Unless it is extremely cold, the cycle will keep me warm enough during the night. If I wake up cold, I have the starter right by me and restart the cycle all over.
