Having Teams On Your Truck

As an owner of a D unit truck. How do you go about letting a team drive for you? What % of the load should you give them? Are you or them paying the insurance on your truck? Any answers would be greatly appreciated. In fact if someone understood the whole setup that would be even better.

The most common situation seems to be a 60/40 split with the drivers getting the 60% plus all of the fuel surcharge. There are variations on that including one driver being the lead driver and getting a larger portion divided out of the 60% than the second driver. Personally I think the drivers should also get 100% of any hand load/unload pay and not 60/40, unless the truck owner is going to teleport to the dock and help with handling the freight in which case a split is justified. I hope that helps a little. Good luck.

Hard question to answer without knowing the company and how they would be running. As Leo said, 60/40 is the most common. That percentage in some instances may be too low if a company only pays a small surcharge. You driver will go broke paying for fuel.

The other item you mentioned was insurance. If you own the truck, then it is your responsibility.
