Got to love them French

Ok so we have elections in France, the first thing that comes to mind is it is not like our elections, it seems to be a convoluted way of electing anyone in my opinion. But anyway they have one election to determine who will go on to be elected, or it looks that way.

Then you have the candidates; Royal, a far left (actually so socialist as one can get today) and Sarkozy a ‘right winger’. I listened to interviews with both candidates and one with both of them which I have to say that keep them both in France. Sarkozy seems to understand the need for real reform but Royal wants to expand the government for free everything – sound familiar?

I came to the conclusion anyone who thinks France has got it together needs to be sent over there to try to make a living as an American.

The last thing that went on was if Sarkozy got elected, Royal said there would be rioting in the streets and the government would fall. Well the election is over and you would have thought the country would return to some normalcy but instead there has been rioting in the streets, the president elect is hiding out of the country and the country is bracing for radical reforms – got to love them French.

The really bad thing about this is that many people think we need to change our election process to be exactly like the French system. The one thing the critics here point out is the voter turn out is higher over there than here. Well the reason for that is they vote on days they don’t work, Wednesday thru Sunday, so of course there would be a higher turnout. That may be a good change for us, moving it from Tuesday to say Saturday. Oh I for one don’t see the need to spend more money on things like runoffs and such and really am in favor to eliminate the primaries which I don’t think my tax money needs to go to pay for it.
