The hinges on the rear-side door of the GMC/Chev have the interface (or the finger joints) of the two hinge sides facing forward. This configuration allows wind-driven moisture to enter the inside of the hinge barrel and rusts the hinge-pin. After a couple hundred thousand miles the rusted inside of the hinges prevent smooth and easy operation of the door. The forward-side door does not have this problem.
I solved this problem by drilling a hole in the center of each hinge and inserting a self-tapping zerk, or grease, fitting. An occasional shot of grease keeps my doors operating as intended. I recommend other owners consider the same action before the hinges rust.
