There are equal numbers of killers who have been pegged as quiet individuals that never bothered a soul. People can develop depression at any stage of life. It can be the result of multiple factors and cannot be predicted.
The copy cat syndrome is always a possibility and has been studied extensivly. I have never said no guns folks. Keep your pea shooters if it makes you feel special.
For the rest of us,we just feel that there needs to be rules of the road that recognize that 250 million should be enough.If you don't agree,thats your right at this point. But that may change. Those of us that think maybe it's gotten a little out of hand might put some restrictions on the free and open market that now exisits for a small minority that get some sick kick out of knowing they can take our 100 people at one time.
Assault gun bans have been over turned by money. Pure and simple. As the body count goes up due to the loss of jobs,and individuals feel the need to get even,money alone will not be able over turn sane gun laws this time.

Interesting trivia:
There are ~207,754,000 cars registered in the U.S. yet the accidental death rate ALONE for incidents involving cars is GREATER than the COMBINED TOTAL of ALL- homicide, suicide, & accidental firearm related deaths-> 46,000 accidental deaths/yr for cars vs 30,000 total deaths/yr for firearms.

Tallcal,
The real problem is not the mass killings but the punishment. If we decide to be a country with some b*lls and treat murder as murder with an option for the victim or their family to seek the death penalty, then murder rates will drop.

The recent killing of 'immigrants' in Binghamton.....

EDIT-ADDED;
Why would a person who is not a citizen be allowed to buy a gun in the first place? Maybe we need to re-evaluate the laws to prevent more killings like this one, right Tallcal?

Maybe we should insist that anyone who wants to come here learn english and if they fail, they can't come here? OK on that one Tallcal, that was one of this frustrations being here.

In the case of VA tech, the courts knew about this guy, his unstable behavior was part of a previous encounter with law enforcement and begs the question when do you draw the line with mentally unstable people and the public's safety?

Now there is a debate raging about guns on campuses, the problem is that people look at campuses as a place equal to grade school, where there are children - sorry they are adults at colleges, not children and should by every letter of our law be able to defend themselves and carry a gun on campus, in malls and even at other schools (what a ridicules law!).

The other side of this thing is that it is not access to guns that is the problem, it is the problem with people. Unless you are willing to fight for the public to be safe by all means, then picking on guns is a cop out. There is too much about how people are murdered to dwell on one single issue that really is insignificant, insignificant in the way that people will find a way to harm others regardless what road blocks are in their way.

By the way according to our great media we had 21 people and one dog get killed over this past week but in fact there were something like 247 killings take place by different means this past week (oh and one dog). If you want to put this all in perspective, include knives, bats, poison, cars and trucks - all used to kill.

AND one last thing, I think we need to stop swap meets in general, I had a good business with car parts and swap meets like Pomona and The one in Arizona killed my business, maybe we need to restrict sales there too?
