Getting the 2nd pallet out of the truck?

wondering if anyone out there has any tricks in getting that second pallet that the fork lift can,t reach out to the back. Ussually I just take a tow rope hook it it around the center of the pallet and have the fork lift drag it. But yesterday I had 2 that were on smaller pallets, Each pallet had 900lbs on it and these pallets had solid boards on them. No where to run the strap through. Ended up putting the hook on the side, and watch the pallet go all crooked as he pulled. Don.t want to do that again.

If you stay in the General Forum section and look down and find unloading loads, it will tell you everything about taking that second and third plt out. Hopes this helps.

In a pinch you can wrap a good thick tie down strap around the pallet and then attach the tow strap to that.

I use just a tow strap works great ... also never hook directly to the head frame of a fork lift hook back to the strap if the skid has any thinh over 800 lbs on it the hooks will jam and you may never get em off

To keep it from twisting wrap completely around the skid and it will square up as long the fork lift operator can drive stright back lol

Necessity is the mother of really bad (but works in an emergency) inventions.

Down at the hardware store they sell drill rod. You want two, about 3 feet long and 5/16 at least in diameter. Buy a propane torch while you're at it since you'll need it, and if you don't already have a vise get one of these as well. Heat the drill-rod till it's red hot about 6 inches from the end and bend it into a hook shape. The other end gets heated and formed into an eye. Do this for both drill rods. Now connect a length of chain to the rods-- get enough chain to connect to one hook, then reach around to the other hook, leaving some slack so your tow chain can hook up to this. Conect the other end of the tow chain to the forklift and start pulling.

I used to work in a hammer shop-- making tools sometimes had to be done.

like most I just hug it all the way around the pallet..make sure strap is low around the pallet or you could end up pulling the load off the pallet....

one thing you should always think of when loading is how toget the load off
one thing you could do is take a 2x4 and cut it to fit pallet and put it behind the pallet
take rope and tie it to ends of 2x4 by making 2 eye's on pallet for each pallet
or like i do use rollers in floor
or find aircraft rollers and put them on pallet

3 or 4 peices of 3/4 inch 36 inches long round stock. Lift the edge of the skid, toss them under and roll the skid accross them, not the fastest way but helps.
