Gas prices

If you don't think what a president does doesn't affect the market then your more the fool.....when trump was in office gas was cheap and we didn't have the price of lumber go thru the roof.....so yes what a president says and does matter to a market because investors listen to what a president says and does and decide weather to invest in stocks or not.

Even more though Trump was very proactive with bringing as much oil to market in our country and with political leverage and some pragmatism when dealing with other country's leaders so as not to disrupt oil supplies.

Imo, most that don't mind or care about the alarming rise in gas prices are people that are retired and don't drive much and those that have a very short drive to work and also don't drive much anywhere else.

I've had my car for just at 25 months. I have 8350 miles on it. Even with that low mileage I still care as it's all part of the bigger picture and the picture gets blurrier and blurrier the farther left you move.

Gas prices go up and down regardless of who is president. US presidents have minimal impact on the world oil prices. Trump was a little different in that he was unusually involved in oil markets. FactCheck.org gave Trump credit for 25% of the world oil and gas prices, with most presidents having perhaps as much as 1% influence on things. It's all about keeping the supply flowing. Trump did that by encouraging domestic oil and gas production (by, you know, not shutting down pipelines), granting waivers for some countries to buy oil from Iran, and pestering Saudi Arabia and OPEC to keep the oil flowing.

Be that as it may, the average American motorist uses about 650 gallons of gasoline per year. That's 14,300 miles a year at 22 MPG. Your miles may vary.

The price difference between $2.50 and $3.00 per gallon for 650 gallons is $325 a year, or $27 a month. Not really worthy of a full-on meltdown.

That's one of the reasons I got Costco and Sam's club memberships....for the cheaper fuel. Which can be anywhere from 5 to 30 cents cheaper per gallon than most gas stations.

I got a Costco membership two times when I needed new glasses. They were about half the cost of anywhere else and the savings was maybe 3 times the cost of the membership. I never bought fuel from them as they are far enough away the savings would be consumed by the trip. For some I'm sure it's great but it wouldn't net much savings for me, if any at all.

I drive roughly 11 miles total a day to and from work. Probably works out to around $700 a year or so. I still use my van that I use to expedite with. I don't drive it much anywhere else.
Plus Kroger fuel points. I probably won't get a better gas mileage vehicle unless I have a much further commute and gas prices become insanely high.
I still look at the bigger picture though and am a bit annoyed that the current administration has an unnecessarily backward energy policy that will affect people who drive much more.

My Sprinter got 22 MPG. But it's now dead. Unmercilessly totalled by a cold, calloused insurance company. It's not a certainty yet, but the prospect of outfitting another van and staying out on the road is not something I'm rushing to do, so I may get a job at home and just retire in a year or two.

The other day I bought a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am from my mechanic. It was his daughter's and it's in insanely good condition cosmetically and mechanically. It's rated 26 city / 37 highway and she's gotten 32 overall with it. He was gonna sell it for a really lot more, but gave it to me for $1200.
