Fair Compensation

The circumstances are as follows: I accepted a run offer on a Sat. for an early Mon. morning pick-up (2:00 A.M.) the deadhead mileage was 92. On Sun. afternoon I called and asked for the critical check out time which was midnight. I left at midnight and sent a 15 with destination as Pick up. On arrival I received an error message. I called in and found the run had canceled at 6:00 P.M. Sunday. I did not receive a phone call or Clink message telling me the run had canceled. I returned home. Total mileage 184. What do you think fair compensation for a B unit would/should be?

I hate it when that happens. I don't know what would be fair for a B unit. I do know that when it happens to us I do not feel that we are fairly compensated for, not only the miles driven, but the time involved. Not only did you drive those miles but you were also off the boards and not able to take paying runs for the time you were listed as under load. This problem is one of the only two or three "warts" that I really have problems with. I do not know how it can be fixed.

As soon as you get dispatched for a run it puts you as "en route" even if the pickup is 4 miles away and 3 days away. Unless a dispatcher specifically overrides this it happens automatically.

When the load canceled you were likely sent a C-Link message as your status was "en route" so it assumes you are in the truck and the C-Link is "on". The system will try to send you that message only for so long and then it quits (and that's Qualcomm's system not the FedEx one).

The solution, as soon as you get the load given to you, go out, fire up the C-Link, get the run info and then send an 08 and put yourself in a layover with your C-Link status as "NO". Once you do that, any communication to you will come via a telephone call. Then send a "15" once you leave to do the pickup.

This will make sure you get the messages and...any potential load offers.:)

As for compensation.....call your CC...be polite and they likely will give you something (likely the DH miles rate). It's a wart in the system that I have been burned by as well but it's really nobody's fault and there is no language in your lease to cover it.

I agree with the above answers. We had 5 dry runs in the last 30 days. The compensation we received was minimal. Besides the lost time off the boards and the fuel expense there is also the disappointment factor. We had a run that was to deliver 100 miles from home on 4/5. Since we needed to be home on 4/6 it was the perfect run for us. Load cancelled, we got another one delivering 450 miles away and had to deadhead the rest of the way. I know it won't happen but I think we should be compensated for our time from the time we accept as we are unavailable to accept any other loads.

Somebody come up with a good rate.
We had DH from San Jose to Phoenix to find out the load
was cancelling as we kmocked on the shippers door.:eek:

I hate when that happens.

It would also be nice to get paid for ALL of the work you do!! Like, getting paid above the run pay when you run your reefer for 31 hours longer than expected due to road closures. What a crock that is!! :mad:
