This article explains it better than anything I've seen . There will be no quick relief . A solution would take years and hasn't been started yet . Should American Vehicles go Diesel Just When the World is Running Short of it? - Column/C/D Columns/Columns/Features/Car and Driver - Car And Driver

Actually the solutions are here, but the government is making it impossible for us to use them.

For example the EPA.

With 2012 and later on the stricter emission requirements on diesels, coupled with California's assault on the IC engine, we won't see any solutions come to us until we have a complete meltdown.

One of the biggest problems we have beside the BS behind the 2012 standards is the fact that we have two political issues, one is the EPA charter which has to be changed to at least reflect our real situation and force the EPA to examine national issues when determining standards and policies and the second is defining who can set the standards for us, the trucks on the road.

As for the other solution, well ANWR and the gulf are two.

My truck has a 08 engine with all the new emissions control on it. EPA is full of "something"; we make these changes to reduse pollution - and then the changes require us to use a lot more fuel, so we produce more pollution than before. And who benifits: oil companies because we use more fuel!
