Lunch, 40 bucks, doughnuts. Anything to get to know them. I used to do theses thing for my dispatcher and I always got the good jobs. You don't have to but I would bet it helps.

Any dispatcher that takes $40 from you ought to get fired. Then you should be the next out the door.

Just checked your profile. Glad you're not with my carrier.

Lol so negative. I've never given my carrier money. These were in my old days with a small messenger service in Dallas. These small companies can be very cut throat.

Think of it like this. You are a contractor running your own business. You provide a service to this company doing deliveries. Sales people do this all the time. Tickets to a game, lunches, incentives for so much business.

Whether we like it or not it happens and it works.

Maybe incentive sounded a little like bribe. I just mean to build relations. Before the day begins drop off a dozen doughnuts at the office. Slow day? Swing buy with a sub. Got an old gift card?

Service is always a must.

Do ya think a dozen crullers or custard filled donuts and a gallon of coffee will help at the Lodi scales.

Banning Ca.
First Oversize Load ever for me. I had a permit problem. Played dumb. Bought a "I survived the Banning Chicken Coop" tee shirt.
The profits went to an officer's widows fund.
The permit problem corrected itself. :)

This is the only situation a little sucking up is needed.
Otherwise, I don't suck up to anyone.

As for N.Y.C. I've delivered both to Manhattan, and the islands and its a tough town to work.
I recommend you move on before you loose your shirt.
Would you make better money working in Jersey?
I've found at least LTL freight out of Jersey pays much better than N.Y.C. and at least you can usually find a parking spot.

Think of it like this: you're special. Entitled. Deserving of more. Like those folks who drive past a line of traffic to cut in at the front. Because waiting for your turn is for suckers, right?
Whether we like it or not, it happens, it works - and it's still sleazy.

Bob,

Ive already been looking into much better opportunities. Seems like courier isnt such a great route to go. Im getting much better feedback running ltl for brokers. I find out what they actually pay me for last week, but not worth running for peanuts. If you own your own vehicle and are covering all your expenses, you should expect something decent..Its out there..Just have to put in a little homework and weed out as many middle men as possible.

I am getting 5700 a week running in NYC but my van is working 24hr/6days a week. With 3 drivers splitting the shifts. Making it so far.
