ODOT worker struck and killed on Interstate 71 in Delaware County

COLUMBUS – The Delaware Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving a commercial vehicle that killed an ODOT worker today on northbound Interstate 71, near mile post 124, in Delaware County.

The ODOT worker was operating a backhoe on the right berm, when a commercial vehicle drove off the right side of the roadway, striking the backhoe. The commercial vehicle flipped over and became engulfed in flames. The worker, Lee Rizor, 27, of Mt. Gilead was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the commercial vehicle, Dwayne Allen Hill Sr., 59, of Ashland, Va., has been transported to the OSU Wexner Medical Center in critical condition.

Interstate 71 is closed northbound at the I-270 interchange.

This crash remains under investigation.[/h]
