That's the beauty of small claims court, if they don't show you get a default judgement that is easily enforced by taking their property. I don't know this for a fact but I would venture a guess that those DOT officers will have bonds, just like regular cops that can be filed against. I would like things like this to get more attention so that it brings the officer/driver relationship to an even level. I want to feel like I am working with them towards having safer roads rather than the feeling of oppression so many drivers feel today.

You can't take their property you can spend more money and file a lein. That's still a long way from collecting but does add pressure.!

Like the trooper that flipped a rear placard prior to walking up to meet driver.

He cited the driver, then got caught because he failed to disable his dashcam.

If true that should be the end of the troopers career as a LEO!

The real problem is: why do the LEOs feel obligated to find something wrong on inspections?
I told the last one that he wouldn't find anything wrong, and he said "If I don't, my boss thinks I'm not doing my job". Excuse me?!
So he found something: one stick on reflector that had come unstuck & fallen off. And even though it was the only thing he found [out of how many?], he wrote it up. Because that's his job: finding something - no matter how trivial.
I'm pretty leery of inspections any more too, and I don't like it one little bit - I work hard at keeping my truck in good repair. My life depends on it, right?
The problem is, if they don't find violations, then they have nothing to support their budget requests. Which puts them in the position of defending their jobs, at the expense of ours.

It shouldn't be an adversarial situation - but it has become so.

I've seen some trucks I would not want parked next to me pass inspections. I've been lucky to only have one violation in my cdl life and I've been lucky to get decent inspectors most times, I've heard horror stories ! Pandoras inspector the other day was very through and she found a small hole at the rear of our exhaust pipe but she said she dud not want to ruin an otherwise spotless inspection with a small issue, goes to show there are good ones out there
