I have seen vans tagged out at Michigan scales....they do have the right to pull over ANY junker...that appears unsafe...just wish they'd do it more often...
Drivers sometimes get wound up about these blitzes when they come. They are ho-hum events for those who keep their trucks in shape and in compliance. We got pulled in more than usual running during the blitz but were waved through every time.
I mentioned in another thread that originally I had planned to go home but realized I was just giving up. I thought about it and I know my equipment is safe so I decided to run and not worry, the problem comes from those certain types of inspectors. We recently had a driver get put OOS for an unsecured load. Some may think good he needed to be put OOS for not securing his load but if you read the inspection report you find the "unsecured load" was 2 pebbles. The decks of our trailers sit well below the tops of our tires so kicking up pebbles does happen occasionally. The truck and trailer both passed but he needed to find something to screw the driver over with. I am thinking the way to fight people like that is through lawsuits, all you really need to do is file in small claims court to avoid paying lawyer fees. I don't believe that the public is aware of just how ridiculous some of these inspectors are or just how far the government has gone with burdensome regulations.
That's one of the things I like about running with Landstar. They fight bogus citations like that.

This is basically our theory. I've been pulled in three times at our present carrier and passed all three, driving trucks I owned.
It seems lately that there is a slight apprehension in my part.
Not on what they may find.
More about what they may invent.
Like the trooper that flipped a rear placard prior to walking up to meet driver.
He cited the driver, then got caught because he failed to disable his dashcam.
Hope he had his camera and OOIDA Card handy.
All drivers at our company get a paid membership to OOIDA and the report says it was 2 pebbles so I believe it will be fought.

No... all you need to do is learn how to write a complaint, and file it in federal court. You want to hit them where their pocketbook is.
If you go to small claims court, and they ignore it, you may win.
What good is a judgement if you can't collect ?
It looks like OOIDA should collect a bunch of these and fight them.
It'll be good PR. And it's the right thing to do.
