Was having the exhaust manifold changed on the truck becuase it was cracked. When the turbo was removed also found the turbo had a HUGE crack in it on the backside impossible to see until the unit was removed. Odd thing was there was no power loss or engine running hot.

Anyone ever replace their turbo on this engine? If so just wondering how much it was (without labor if possible). I just want to brace myself before I call Cummins in the morning or if anyone know of a good alternative to Cummins that I can get one overnighted to me possibly.

I seen a couple fl70's getting parted out on craiglook.com,you might want to look there first I'd hate to think what cummins might want.

it's not that bad, I think around 800.

I would check around to the turbo reman people, the Holset turbo is straightforward and they do have kits for the DYI people.

If you have a cracked manifold, where is it cracked?

Many of the cummins manifolds are three piece units because of the expansion from heat that is involved. Mine is and so was my 24 valve isb. I had one yahoo show me where one was cracked, which was where it connected.

800 is not bad at all. For some reason I had 2500 stuck in my head but thats for N14.

Mine is a 2 piece manifold at it's cracked just in front of the turbo mount. Mechanic (cummins mechanic) says its common on this motor from the weight of the turbo.

Thanks for the info both of you!

Cummins owns Holset. Under my current set of circumstances as I do not want to prolong and have further down time I am just going to opt for the Cummins. I would have to be down an extra day to do anything different. The cost of being down does not offset the price savings in this instance for me.

Thanks again for your help!
