courier vs. expediter

I dont understand- is there a difference between couriers and expediters? what is it?

couriers are local pickup/delivery companies. Their deliveries for the most part are small package and documents. Expediter freight is LTL loads, specialized loads, and production parts. Some expedite companies haul Haz-mat as well, and most couriers do not. There are some other differences as well but that is the basics.
