Companies to avoid

Hello everyone. I was wondering if I could get some sound advice from other tractor owners/expediters. I'm sure there are good and bad points to every company but I would like to know if there are expediting companies out there that should be avoided or just aren't a good starting place. I have heard alot of stories talking to other drivers. Some say Panther II has too many tractors. Others say Tri-State makes you sit all the time etc etc. The pay also varies considerably from company to company so how does one choose when first starting out? Thanks!

I would say the ones with the most frieght, flexibility to find your own loads, and highest pay. Availibility of newer trailers would also be a big consideration. I would look at Landstar or Panther when considering the above.

If you are near a major truckstop make trips to it and talk to the drivers for carriers you would consider.

Ask the recruiter for names and numbers of O/O's you can call. They are going to be pro company but aren't paid by your decision like the recruiter is. Most of the time you get numbers of guys with anywhere from a few to several years with the company and they'll usually tell you about the warts as well as the good stuff.

Read back through these forums for the last year or two. It's a lot to cover but there's a wealth of information to be had.

Good luck to you.

We had a tractor with FEDEXCC for 10 years. We did well and our numbers we're always consistant from year to year. As with any size unit there are slow times but we found it very profitable. The only reason we downsized was because of a health issue...which with the smaller unit would enable me to continue to run when I had to go out by myself. We tried Landstar they charge $155 a week to use their trailer and as of last summer, only had 18 tractors. Can't say anything about Pantherii.

i would avoid any that use a load board system. find a company that has the balls to pay you deadhead to get a decent load and not lose your #####!

hope that helps!

Been with Panther II for 3 yrs now. Not all is beautiful but at the end of the day it is all about the money and we do very well. We do drive T/T as a husband wife team. I can't say this from experience but I would guess with the HOS rules driving single would be a challenge to get the miles in. The unexperienced Dispatchers Ppppp me the most at Panther.
