Comments on Ford 5.4L gas engine and 5spd combo?

I'm looking into a van on an E350 chassis with the 5.4L engine and 5spd transmission. Any comments on this combo would be appreciated.

I would spend the extra $6k for the diesel with the 6 speed tranny. Don't think the 5.4L gas will hold up for OTR use. I have the 5.4L with the 5 speed in my F 150 and get around 17mpg highway empty. it's a nice engine, runs well but wouldn't want it for commercial use, especially OTR.

I've never seen a van with a manual, is that a special order? Does it cost more to get it that way?

I believe he is talking about the 5 speed auto tranny as opposed to the 6 speed auto.

Opps nevermind
I'm think old school like 4 speed automatics
5 speed and 6 speed would be manuals

They just keep adding more gears to the automatics
I alway thought the two speed cruise-o-matic did it's job
