Chicago area clutch repair

One of my trucks has a slipping clutch. Is there a good Freightliner dealer or other shop in the Chicago area that someone has experience with and can recommend? Thanks.

If it has to go to FL, the one in Palatine is the only one that we have dealt with. Good work, but don't be in a hurry. If that isn't a issue, there are several shops depending on where they are at.

I had a bad experience with Paletine once, but that was some time ago. If it can make it up I94,there is a FL dealer in Oak Creek WI that seems to be OK. At least this week it is.

We have only dealt with them this year for warranty work. One of our teams lives there and it is close to their house. Only two services/repair there, so I would be cautious based on Rich's report.

It sounds like the bad experience Rich had was a while back and this year they've done ok, at least for your team. They are going to check the dealer guide to see what's closest to where they deliver. I'll mention Palatine to them in the morning as a possibility and see what they've found too.

Leo, Has anyone tried adjusting the clutch?? It would be a piXXer to replace the clutch if just needs to be adjusted, not to mention considerably more costly!!!!! Ask the driver how much free travel the clutch pedal has (normal is around 1 1/2" to 2")....if there isn't any, try an adjustment before replacement.

My driver is more mechanically inclined than I am, thank goodness. Then again, a desk is more mechanically inclined than I am but that's a different thread. He said he's going to ask them to check it for adjustment before doing anything else. It's approaching 400k miles. I don't know how far it should go before replacement.
