Chavez at the UN

Chavez represents the poor, the very ,very poor of his counrty.Bush the rich of his.
Chavez's critque of Bush is accurate. The latter's motivations are primarily maintaining undeserved wealth and domination.Whatever good he might do is sacrificed to that.Chavez represents the deperatly poor,to whom constitutional strictures may seem secondary.
It's anti Yankee season in the World. It's a pity that some of even what such a nut as Chavez says is true.Every partiotic Venezulan is ashamed of the parts that were false, every patriotic American is ashamed of the parts that were true.
Chavez is trying to get attention from a UN body that has grown increasingly anti-American over the past couple of decades.Bush has become a breathtakingly in effective leader, which has opened the door for Chavez(major nut case)to use his swing in the world as the President of a wealthy oil producer to hammer Bush into submission.
Other then the oil that Chavez's country is sitting on,I just don't get why Chavez stick's in Bush's craw.I mean, the guy was democratically elected, mostly by the turn out of the poor and disenfranchised.I thought thats what Bush stood for,or at least thats what he says his goal is in the mid east.
The longer this govermnment continues on it's present course, which is now driven by polls and desperation, the larger the soap box becomes for the likes of Chavez and other freely elected leftist leaders.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - One of President George W. Bush's fiercest political opponents at home took his side on Thursday, calling Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez a "thug" for his remark that Bush is like the devil.

"Hugo Chavez fancies himself a modern day Simon Bolivar but all he is an everyday thug," House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said at a news conference, referring to Chavez' comments in a U.N. General Assembly speech on Wednesday.

"Hugo Chavez abused the privilege that he had, speaking at the United Nations," said Pelosi, a frequent Bush critic. "He demeaned himself and he demeaned Venezuela."

Simon Bolivar led the fight for independence against Spanish rule in several South American countries in the early 19th century and is cited by Chavez as a political model.

Chavez, a vociferous critic of Bush and the United States, has allied himself with U.S. opponents Cuba and Iran and has led a resurgence of left-wing populism in Latin America.

"The devil himself is right in the house. And the devil came here yesterday. Right here," Chavez said as he stood at the U.N. podium where Bush spoke the day before.

"It smells of sulfur still today, this table that I am now standing in front of," Chavez said.

His remarks drew applause from many of the delegates.

Bush administration officials have not responded directly to Chavez's remarks.

"I am not going to dignify a comment by the Venezuelan president to the president of the United States. I think it is not becoming for a head of state," Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Wednesday.

Tall I wonder what would happen to you if you went to Caracas Venezula, stood on a street corner and loudly critized their dictator Hugo. Probably wouldn't last 5 minutes. You despise the President and his administration,so why don't you leave??

What would happen,Rich, if you went to Bush's new New Hampshire,Iraq, and stood on a downtown corner(whats left it)in the capitol city and started shouting out 'I'm American and we just set you people free, look at me,I represent a new way of life for you".
Gee,I wonder what would happen.
I've been to Caracus, under the last corrupt regime(supported by the USA),and it was frightfully dangerous. The crime rate has dropped drasticly as a result of poor people being fed.Funny how that works.
I'm just pointing out the nut case was duly elected by a majoity of the citizens of Venzuela.
The poor vote(when given a chance, unlike the poor of Florida and Ohio) when crooked states attorney generals with an agenda don't rig the local poor electorate.
Anyway,as he gives oil to the poor countries of the world, and use's his influence to establish himself as a powerful figure, our lack of alternative energy plays into his scheme. It's shameful.
Regarding leaving,I don't recall saying I despised our President,or hated any politicians.I will respectfully not accept your invitation to leave my home. But thanks for offering!

Too bad Hugo cant run his own country. He counts on Cuba for many things like his own security and medical care.

I suspect Hugo is like many other leaders who say they are a champion of the poor. Its all a tactic to gain support. Does he live a poor deprived life? I doubt it. Kind of like John Kerry and other democrats who say they are for the "working man" but were born with a silver spoon in their mouth and have done little "real" work throughout their life. I know there are some good dems though.

Maybe its just me, but...I think people forget about how lucky we are to live in America. I spent 3 months in Europe last fall. Found many people who wondered why I enjoyed being there as much as I did and told me they would like to come to America. True, we have our problems. Some struggle to pay bills. But, compared to most other nations we are wealthy. Most in this country are spoiled. I have to admit I am a bit spoiled as well. Too many hold their hand out waiting for the Government to take care of them. Fortunately, we have good social programs and a lot of money is spent on making things better for the less fortunate. Not to mention hospitals and clinics that take people even if they cannot pay. Churches and other organizations that donate lots of money to the needy.

Back to Hugo. Unfortunately for Chavez...he sits on (forget the term) expensive oil. Which means it cost a lot more money to obtain the oil he has versus oil in other parts of the world. Like the oil recently discovered in the Gulf of Mexico. With the price of oil dropping (cutting into Hugo's profits) and the advent of other forms of fuel and hybrid vehicles...if things continue Chavez and his jealous ramblings will be a vague memory in ancient history.

Should we trust two bit misfits from another nation more than we trust our own people?

Gee Tallcal, interesting post.

Let’s see Chavez = Hitler, Yep

Chavez – Hero of South America. Savior of Venezuela and thinks he is a God.

Hitler – Hero of the German people, Savior of post war Germany (WW1) and thought he is God.

To me what he did in his little ‘South American way’ country is the same thing Hitler did in Berlin in 1935/36. Reduced crime, reduced unemployment, fed the poor, put pride back into the country – except that Chavez has a long way to go to live up to Hitler’s Ideals, for that matter even Castro’s or even Lenin’s ideals. His is still a totalitarian regime any way you look at.

The country is still a half a** backwards – must depend on high oil prices to export – must export to survive – still have 14% unemployment rate - confiscate wealth - must rig elections to stay in power – country. Right now he can do all the complaining he wants, the price of oil is above $35 a barrel and this is where he makes his profits. If he decides to back Iran with money, arms and other stuff, we can freeze all his country's assets and even seize them under our laws. I don't think the UN will be able to say much about that.

Ohh wouldn’t that be grand, the US government Nationalizing CITGO and all its subsidies! We can claim all the oil that is here on our shores, even seize the tankers in open waters and give it to the FOW to sell at an enormous profit. What is he going to do? Invade us? Nope, he will sit there and take it. OPEC will spank the little despot if he gets out of line with them.

There are few unanimous decisions made within the OPEC and Chavez is low on the ladder. I can see if Qatar or UAE feel threatened by Chavez, they made decide to increase production without his approval to show him who has the real power – opps oil under $20 a barrel. He can’t produce his Heavy Crude with a price below $35 a barrel – Ha Ha (Nelson Muntz). OPEC understands that it is the US that provides them the means to retain power in their own countries and the Middle East, not Venezuela and as much as they are advesarial towards the US, they are not dumb like Chavez.

As for his speech, we should have pulled the secret service detail from him and left him on his own in NY. We were not under any obligation to provide them access to the UN, we did that to Arafat and others, let them all meet in Europe.

If you or anyone else agrees with his or President Tom’s speech, you agree with the terrorist, PERIOD. This is a Black and White issue, no gray about it.

Just a thought, when you depend on a country to feed and cloth your populace, you don’t cr*p on them.

Another thought, I don’t understand why people gravitate to the likes of Che Guevara, Castro and Juan Perón – they are still equal to terrorist like the Iranian leader – president Tom. They all use or used terror and oppression to rule but all lead a revolution with the ignorant masses to over throw the government. Are the people better today? Nope, they still lack freedom.

OH TALLCAL;

1 – Clinton’s presidency was the ultimate RULE BY POLLS administration.......EVER.

2 – DID YOU GET THE MOVIE? Watch the movie.

Greg,I stated twice the guy was a nutjob, maybe three times.Unfortuntly,he's kind of like every other thing we don't like in life but can't do anything about. So he's a thug who gets to be in the lime light.Whats Kerry and Clinton and Gore have to do with it?
I just made a few personal observations about a 20 minute speech, and you trounce like a rabid ##### roach!!!

Hey you all,

Here is the statement I have been waiting for, for a long time that is.

"You don't come into my country, you don't come into my congressional district and criticize my president, " U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel.

Key words "my country" and "criticize my president"

If many more would think like this.... well you put it together.

For Charles Rangel to say that is something, however Mr Bill has an office smack down in the middle of Harlem. Charles's elevator doesn't go very high so perhaps he was confused as too who the sitting President is.

Well,we now know one more thing thing we need to add to W's contribution to our saftey here at home.Besides spending $300 billion on securing the ports,(and 18 other recommendations)he spend it on his little war.Now we know ,as was suggested before he went barging in ,that so many new terrorist have been created by our presence in the region,we are now in a much more unsafe situation, and getting deeper in trouble with each passing day.
Thank God someone leaked the information from the Intellegence Commitee.(A good American)
Aviator, your goofy little list of Clinton deeds is less then half of just the last 3 months W blunders.Next time I have 2 weeks,I'll get started on the list.
I'll give you a hint how to tell when another blunder is coming you hear that W is about to say something,it's a clue theres another blunder coming.

Yes, what a record to remember. One of the things I like best is the welcome to Arkansas sign that combines mention of Bill with the fact he's a sex offender. Such a huge amount of pride one can have in their leader looking at the record of criminality. At least we don't have as much to thank him for as Vince Foster and a plane full of people who were given a special radar guide slope to follow.

Tal, how do you know this or do you just trust CNN more than I do? Or...do all of these reports all of a sudden have more value than they used to? Seems we (not just you) only want to believe the reports that suppport our point of view...
