Cap or brand new

I am hoping to get some good advice here like I have in the past when I have asked for it. I have purchased recaps in the past and have experience with them on trailers. I do not have experience with them as drive tires. I am wondering if anyone does and if so what do you think. I have heard that Mich. Tire is doing something really new in that arena and just wondered if anyone had any thoughts. I have always bought brand new tires but because of the ever increasing price of fuel and other costs, I am looking inot where I can cut costs. I was wondering if this may be a place to do it. I need four tires on one of my trucks and having just bought new stter tires for both, and one drive tire for another, man I need some cost savings. Thanks

I have met several guys who used recaps on the rear and had very good results probably due to the light loads we mainly carry.I belive Weave said at one time he had bought recaps for his Century. Mark,If I am wrong about that sorry.
I once toured a Bandaq recapping facility here where I live, they showed me all that goes into a recap and I was impressed.I would not hesitate to buy recaps but with the FDX Goodyear discount the cost savings are not that great. I once rode in a D unit where the guy had put recaps on the steers.Man did I get out of that truck fast.I asked him who would do that as I didn't think any decent tire shop would. He said he bought them and went to ratty tire fix place and they did it but wouldn't give him a receipt.I wonder if he is alive today.

No way would I do that up front. I just had a long time driver say he did it all the time on drive tires and it sparked with me as a way to save a buck right now as one of my trucks needs rears. I am about to go out in what will be my third truck and I hate to dump about $2000 if I do not have to. I need that money for fuel as I start up if possible. raceman

They would be ok for a drive or a tag axle but clearly not for a steer. With the discounts available now, I would go new before a recap.
