Bad past!!!!!!!!

I have been tring to find a job in the driving field with a good company that is not looking at my past. I am 33 yrs old and had made a lot of bad choices early. But now 13 plus years later they are still there. I have been working for private owners, Driving for the last 5 plus years. but every time i try to get on with a company its a NO GO !!!. I have 1 Felenoy that is 10 yrs old, And 2 misdemenors that are almost 15 yrs old. Are there any companys out there that are willing to look past that? If so, Who? Would it help if i became a owner/operator. Other then the money, are there other good points to being a o/o.

I think most companies do a back ground check, dating back 10 years. The problem is going across the border. If you are a convicted felon, you will not be able to leave the US, therefore not being able to hire on with anyone requiring you to be able to enter Canada.

I don't know any companies off the top of my head who are hiring people with a shady past.

As for the money, some O/Os make far less than someone driving for an Owner.

I think it really depends on the severity of your criminal record, especially if it involved illegal drugs.

Its gotten tougher to get on with most carriers even if you dont have a criminal record. Most carriers in my area will not hire you if you have had more than 4 jobs in a 6 year period. I also noticed a very thin line with the age discrimination law

We have people calling our office all the time regarding good records yet they are 40 + and dont get hired.

You might try contacting the waste haulers in your area, it might not be what you want right now but you could probably get hired with them.

Dukes... are you serious? I don't see any carrier having a prob with previous job history. I should know... mine looks like a who's who of the expediting industry. (Well... maybe not THAT bad)

The previous posts are pretty accurate tho. If it was a drug conviction, I would say it's a slim chance of getting on with a larger company. And if it's assault or a dui, don't plan on going to Canada without kissing their butt. In any event, you can still ask the recruiters. If that leads nowhere, try smaller expediting companies, then finally independants. If you have a valid cdl and a decent driving record, there is a place for you in expediting.

I watched this original post with some sadness. People who have "paid their debt" should be able to start over. It is, unfortunately, not so simple in reality.
I believe it depends on what the criminal acts were. You don't specify; but if you have several convictions for theft or fraud say; why is a carrier or a shipper going to trust you with their equipment and cargo?
Once you have that record; it will be with you until the day you die.
This seems to be more than a can't go to Canada issue; he says whenever he applies to a carrier he is declined.
Also; once again; I must point out that Canadians with a criminal conviction in their past are not allowed to go into the USA without jumping through many hoops.
It has nothing to do with "Kissing Canada's butt"; I don't know if you could kiss (place name of crappy town here;) ) anyways.

That comment didn't have anything to do with getting on with a company, in most cases. I was just stating prepare for a long ordeal to get into Canada if those were his infractions. Basically, kissing Canada's (in this case their immigration dept's) butt. Nothing against the Canuckians, just the politics get old. I should know... I married one :7

If it's so hard to get into the US, how does Tie Domi make it to his away games? hehe

This is the Post in question RE: Bad past!!!!!!!!

The quote is:

>time i try to get on with a company its a NO GO !!!.

Seems like more than a Canada issue to me.
Tie Domi?
His brother might have problems getting in.

Most of the carriers that have the weird hiring policies are LTL types, Averitt express wont hire you if you have any visible tattoos and requires you to have your own pallet jack....hold on..let me get my pallet jack out of my trunk.?..And I forgot one..short hair..I personally have no tattoos or hair..or pallet jack.

Southeastern (I think thats the name) red and silver trucks wont hire if you have had more than 4 jobs in 6 years, Roadway express has that astronaut training/physical for drivers oooooh I'm weightless! you gotta have this since they have no trucks with a/c,radios or powersteering.

My personal all time favorite is the guys that deliver for Aarons...you have to wear a tie..my question is this..what happens if your helper drops his end of that refridgerator on the stairs and your tie is stuck in the handle?

I used to work on the docks for Roadway. They didn't want you to take bathroom breaks. They said "Do that *bleep* on your own time. I can see why they don't have a/c, radios, or power steering... they're a bunch of money grubbing weasels. I have no idea why anyone would drive for them.

Please, Roadway... take the seat out of my truck, I just want to sit on the pole. And while you're at it, I want a bed of nails in the bunk! x( x( x( x( x(
