I have had my own authority and worked with others to start one truck operations.

its both good and bad.its good that you are free to set your own price and work at your own pace.

its bad that your on your own when it comes to truck repairs, insurance, fuel, dot audits

finding your own loads can be a joy but most days it just means you work alot more hours or hire someone to do it for you.

a straight truck or tractor will have alot better chance than a cargo van. with a straight I usally gross between 2-3,500 per week that I run and when I drive the tractor its more like 3,500-5,000

the expence of the tractor is alot more than the straight but a tractor has less deadhead and does not sit 24hrs unless you want it to.

not really sure what you want to know but I sent you a pm with my number if you want to talk. its best to catch me after about 7pm

Thornapple when you asked about the load board and 4 hour pay I didnt mention to you that you can haul for anyone off any loadboard and they will still pay you in 4 hours just make sure you submit the info to them before you pick up the load it takes about 10 minutes by email to them to get an approval most times if you call them they do the credit check while you wait on the phone.

here is another web board thats free www.pacerglobal.com
they get alot of freight that goes to transfreight crossdocks at toyota plants.when searching that one keep in mind if the agency code is cols1 its an expedite.

another free one www.swantrans.com they have some expedites that are ltls

www.usacanadaloadup.com

www.gofmi.com is also free

www.uacl.com

teamworldwide www.teamww.com its not a load board but will give you agent contacts they do alot out of AR.

if you get to CA. you might hook up with Megatrux they pay pretty good and have freight in other places as well.

of course landstar www.landstarbroker.com

oh nyk logistics some good stuff some not worth messing with but I like them because they advance 50% when loaded and settle with a com-check when you deliver www.mynla.com

www.spitrans.com another carrier that will advance and has a quick pay program

make sure before you factor to ask the broker if they have a quick pay program or do fuel advances.even if they only advance 30% thats 30% you wont have to pay a factoring fee on.

if you decide to go with a tractor www.realtimefreight.com
that is a board that is just shippers and you deal direct with them.

let me know what part you want to run out of I have about 60 boards I monitor everyday.even saturday and sunday and I will try to refer you to some shippers that pay well.

even sites like getloaded.com can be useful at times to post your truck but most of getloaded.com is cheap stuff but I always put my rate in on the postings and explain Im only looking for expedites
that will cut down on the calls you get.

I hope you like talking on the phone cause you will be doing that as much as you drive.

Best of luck to you

Thanks everybody for the info and offer to help.
When I take the plunge I'll need the help.
Got to go thru some investagations first.
It's like starting over again.
I can't do anything out here working from Moe's Southwestern grill.
When I get home I'll look into everything.
I need a wireless card to opperate in Wal-Mart's parking lots.
I'll pm you raceman a little later.
Thanks again.

I did it and it is VERY HARD to do!

You will gross lots of money but what matters is what you keep, not what comes in and goes right back out.
