Diane and I are from Minnesota. We just went through the process of buying a truck in one state and base plating it in Minnesota. There are some forms to complete and information to have in hand before you go in. Without it, you can get your plates but will likely pay far more in sales tax than you need to.
E-mail me your telephone number and we'll fill you in. Below is the link to the Minnesota site, though the info there is only part of what you need to know.
Minnesota has it's own rules. It would be unwise to rely on an out-of-state vendor for Minnesota plate and sales tax info. Under the rules, and because we knew what to do, we reduced our sales tax liability on a new truck to a tiny fraction of what we would have paid had we gone in unprepared. Our other-state dealer knew part of the info (enough to get the truck off his lot and titled in Minnesota) but he didn't know all the info.
