Another side of independence

Now there is no way I would go back to being a leased on O/O, but today I saw the other side of being independent. It's not the first time something like this happened, but I thought I would share it. I ran down to Laredo from Dallas last night, had a couple pallets out of Irving and stopped in Austin to pick up a third pallet, stopped in San Antonio to drop the single pallet and then on to Laredo to drop the two. I was quite sleepy, so I ate a quick lunch and went to bed once I got to the J.

When I woke up I looked at the computer and was checking my email when I had a load offer in my inbox, (some of the other carriers I have partner agreements with send their offers in the email) a nice load going to Dayton, Ohio and I got pretty excited because I thought I was getting something heading home. So I called to make an offer for the load and the guy told me, "Oh, that's gone. I sent that email an hour ago."

So that's what happens sometimes when you're independent. You still have to sleep, take showers, eat, and other various things. There are times when you can't be monitoring everything and you miss some loads. The upside is that you have more sources for loads when you are looking and you're more likely to find something and not sit as much. Those things happen though. I was a little ticked at the moment, but that didn't last long. I needed the sleep. I'll get the next one.

Don't worry, Charles. It was probably bid on someone who's wife was complaining about the driver not being home, and he bid .63/mi on it. You wouldn't have gotten it anyways. ;)
