I know many of the liberal types will not understand this but here is the problem, when you have the federal government meddling in states affairs, it screws all of us. Once this happens, then there is no turning back.
Remember that the way our government is setup is our rights start and end with us, the states are granted rights by us and the feds by the states - hence from God to us to the state to the feds.
Here is a perfect example of how the feds will screw us up by back door politics. In the great state of South Carolina, their governor refused the stimulus money. There has been a big deal about the governor hating education and the children (remember it is all about the children and in the case of the stimulus package it will be their problem). He has been fighting against taking the money which is his right to do under the state Constitution and the legislator has the right to overturn that any time but the courts do not have the right to tell him because of some little clause over sperations of powers.
Well some little twit (use that term loosely) decided that she will sue the govenor over the issue and beleive it or not the state supreme court decided on the side of the schools (ah union) and the twit. She thinks it's a victory but it isn't.
So then there is a SC state rep in washington, Clyburn, who happens to be a democrat and who happens to want his state to contuinue to fund a failung public educaiton system.
He inserted an amendment in the stimulas package to prevent the govenor from govenoring. His little amendment tells the state legistlator that they could go around a governor's refusal. What is the problem is not the feds are usurping the people's rights directly to control their legistlator and their state, out with the 10th amendment competely and in with the court. "While the legality of that was questioned, U.S. District Judge Joseph Anderson on Monday cited it in saying it was clear Congress intended to allow legislators to get around governors who didn't want the money." - AP.
