I went to starbucks, (coffee of the day with a shot of espresso and it is free for me). As I am reading the wonderful pamphlet on the Costa Rican Rainforest Restoration where they are giving 20 customers a chance to go there and work their a** off in the humid weather planting trees, I was listening to the two girls behind me.
They were all highschool kids who were talking about how sad it is that people don’t have stuff they have, meaning that some people don’t have the same stuff that others have. One behind me said that if she knew someone who didn’t have an iPod, she would give her video iPod to them and the other agreed that she would do the same with her Zen. So as the line progressed to the counter, the pair was talking about how the teachers are telling her class to do something to eliminate the unfair advantage some have and this turned to the example used, computers and how everyone should have internet access. Then this led to them trying to outdo each other by telling the ‘good’ deeds they made.
I got up to the counter and placed my complex order, got my coffee and then turn to the two. I introduced myself and asked if the one girl had her iPod, which she said yes then I said let me have it because I don’t have one. She was stunned and of course she said no. I then berated her about how hypocritical and phony she and her friend are and the entire purpose behind the idea of equal stuff is to make people feel better and it starts with giving up her iPod as she said she would. I ended up telling her that she does not have a clue what sharing is all about, she is selfish, ignorant and stupid for making the comments she made without the actions to back up her comments. I asked her what school she went to because I wanted to tell the teacher and her class where this is taught about her inactions. At that point I left. I do hope she will think about what I said.
Oh I still don't have an iPod and I did enter the contest which I hope I win a trip.
