A good fleet owner

I will probably get my nose cut off here but I need to pull a shameless plug on a fleet owner. I came from a big truck background, I like big radios, train horns, straight 8 inch exhaust monsters with 3 stage jake brakes and riding with a pack under a desert moonlight at 3 am. I decided to do expedite because "she wanted to learn how". It has been a difficult transition at best but we love what we do now.
I want to submit to anyone considering expedite carefully choose your fleet owner, ask questions on anything important to you such as when and how you get paid, what are thier expectations for your performance and get it in writing. We work for a gentleman that does direct deposit every week keeps us in new equipment and pays us 67% of the gross like clockwork he even sleeps with his phone 24/7. As for me the most important of all is I can trust him and his wife, he prides himself on being a fair business man and his integrity is intact. Last name is Frame but I call him Ray. I hope your search leads you to a fleet owner as good, as it is your best chance of success. Feel free to e-mail me if you are serious about expedite, I will gladly pass the info.

If they don't look you in the eye when you shake hands you should probably run.

Thanks for an excellent post. It can be a great partnership if everyone is on the same page. It sounds like you have a great owner.
Alot of times, some only report the bad rather than the positive experiences. Kinda like the evening news.
There have been a couple recent posts that suggest doing everything as a driver to get over on the owner because there is a driver shortage.
That sounds like a disgruntled driver who has went through numerous owners.
The working partnership is the successful one.
As in your case, the decent owners usually struggle little to find decent drivers.
Experience and reputation are the key ingredients for finding a decent owner to drive for.
Glad you found one.

Congratulations to both of you on making a successful transition into expediting. A number of big rig drivers jump in and find the world of expediting to be too different from what they knew before. So too with folks who have never been on the road before. Additionally, the two of you together also had to learn how to live together in a truck. My hat is off to you. All at once, you each made major career transitions and together you figured out how to live and work together in a truck.

Your willingness to refer others to a known good fleet owner is also appreciated. Finding yourself with a bad one is no fun. Diane and I have had five fleet owners (or owner/operators who put us in the truck they owned) in two and a half years. Four of them were great. One was not so great. We too would be pleased to share in private the names of the good fleet owners we have come to know.

Excellent post. The transiiton,as noted, from big rig to expedite is a new world.Alot of rumors around the truck stops about the big bucks in expediting.A lot of misinformation from ill informed sources.
Our business is no different then any other:20% of the people make the money,80% make noise.Stay in the 20% group and you will do fine.

Thank's for the flowers, We too have worked for a "less" than stellar "truck owner" and it just reinforces our appreciation for those who make expedite what it truly is. I am certain I don't do it for the easy cash.
It struck me funny yesterday that when Ray picked us up from the airport to get the truck he had a base Honda Civic, I wondered what I had gotten myself into...turns out his priorities are in order and I couldn't give him any higher a recommendation. While I am at it we are leased on w/ Conway Now and I have to admit they are actually doing a fine job for us.
