A Debate Challenge

There are quite a few talented debaters on this site. It might be fun to have a little debate challenge, I was thinking maybe along the lines of topics that pertain to expediting. Like "Vans should be regulated the same as straight trucks" and "The hours of service regulations need to abolished". Lol I just thought of this one, cruise control is ok in work zones. I am sure we could come up with a few more.
I was thinking if we could get 4, 8 or 16 members interested we could do it like the NCAA basketball brackets, with the winners squaring off in the next round, the losers could do for a booby prize if they wanted to.
Instead of the typical Lincoln Douglas style of debate I was thinking that, each debate would require 3 posts per debater. 1-an opening post each, 2- a rebuttal of the others opening, then 3-each debater would do a closing.
The opening of each thread would have a poll for members to vote with a possible 3 points given to each debater, a 4 choice poll.
Example
Joe Schmoe (not you layout) the affirmative , John Doe the negative
A-3 points Affirmative (0 points Negative)
B-2 points Affirmative (1 point Negative)
C-3 points Negative (0 points Affirmative)
D- 2points Negative (1 point Affirmative)
see 3 posts 1 point for each win.
It might just be easier to have the voters pick affirmative or negative.

The topics don't have to be about expediting but it might make it easier to judge, and more interesting to those that do not frequent the soapbox. Maybe even a silly topic, Drivers that shower more than once a week are just being stupid. Lot Lizards are a valuable asset to expediters (skip that one).

Anybody interested in participating, and if so who can do the voting poll? I don't know how to do one. We would also need someone to assign a topic to each debate and who gets which side. I realize each debate may take several days to complete due to the nature of our work.

This is a work in progress before the brackets maybe we could just get 2 people, to try one out and see how it works. I am looking forward to hearing if you folks are interested. I think Turtle, Relent and Greg will be the odds on favorites if they decide to play.

Interesting idea but maybe a bit to "ordered" for expediters in general? We are, after all, a rather "free spirited" group more prone to "free flowing" discussion as opposed to ordered debate. Just my input on the subject. Debate used to be fun in high school and college.

You are dead wrong LayoutShooter. A well thought out argument with a clear cut winner would be fun. It would give members a chance to participate either by being a debater or a voter and help kill some down time. It would also give the EO community a chance to crown a King of Debates with lord knows what prizes but bragging rights that will build the winners ego to an alarming magnitude.
You will see, the brackets are a little far off but when we get two participants and someone to put up the thread with the proposal and the poll, It will become a big part of the EO fun.
So there:D
You lose!

Of course I am dead wrong. What part was I wrong about? The interesting idea part? Have at it. I really enjoyed debate in high school and college. It would be fun to watch. Silly, to be sure, but fun. Why not live and in color at Expo instead? Voice inflections and body language are hard to gauge in this forum. We could even make it a fund raiser for injured expediters or something. I am sure we could get Burger Kind to donate a crown!! :p

Hazmat topics: Should bat droppings (1001 lbs. or more) be considered a hazardous material.

I think Turtle, Relent and Greg will be the odds on favorites if they decide to play.

All novice debaters when compared to you, the master.

Is that your closing or rebuttal? It would seem like with over 10,000 posts you could spare 3.

Neither, it was a real question. I thought it might be more fun!! Geez, now who has no sense of humor? :D As to my number of posts, as stated before, means little more than I am bored a lot. Besides, I get paid by the post. I get a bonus for every post over 10,000!! I though you knew that.
