Are these engines any good on reliability and longevity? I was looking for a 5 or 6 year old diesel around $15K but a dealer has an 07 GMC cutaway, 21K miles - price reduced from $25.5K to $21.5K. Truck is for city use with short highway runs mixed in - I need around 40K miles per year for 3-5 years before replacement. I guess one good thing is no worries about idling issues I hear about. Thoughts?

I've got 314,000 miles on my 6.0 in a Chevy van. All I have had done is a tune-up every 100,000 miles and an alternator. That's it as far as engine work. This is probably 90% highway miles though!

Many expediters have run over 500,000 miles on the 6.0's predecessor the 5.8. Don't see why the 6.0 shouldn't meet or beat that mark.

I know a few guys running the 6.0 doing hotshot runs and they like it. They are getting better fuel economy than the previous engine in the gm vans. Couple have over 300,000 miles on their motors with few problems (belt, alternator).

Personally I prefer a diesel but then I put 500,000 on a van in 4-5 years so for me it's worth it.
