The check engine light came on my 2016 hino 268. No codes displayed. My harbor freight code reader shows code p0404. Google leads me to the egr valve? Is this something that can be cleaned? Any thing else I should check? EGR valves are expensive. I hoping it does not need to be replaced. The truck has about 300K miles.

Will change the oil and fuel filter. The oil did seem low, with no visible leaking anywhere.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, it is covered. There is a warranty enhancement on your truck that will (currently) cover the DEF pump, DEF tank sensor, ATC, DPF, DOC, SCR, EGR valve, ECU, DEF lines, DCU, every aftertreatment temp sensor, DPF differential pressure sensor, cam and crank position sensors, Mass airflow sensor, fuel cut valve, turbo, NOx sensors, and an hour of diagnostic time.

For anyone else reading this: There are warranty enhancements for every Hino from 2011-2021. Not everything I listed pertains to every truck, you can give me your VIN and I'll look it up.

Thank you. The engine light did go off. But came back on this morning. I think it may be in limp mode or just has a loss of power. I'll confirm later.

The hino Dealer is about 20 miles away. Is it okay to drive it or should I get it towed?

Thanks for taking the time to help!!

Thanks for helping with this. The EGR Valve was replaced! An expensive repair, covered by the warranty. Another code popped up today, p20ee, which I think is NOX Sensors. Dropping it off at Hino, hoping for another warranty replacement. Thanks for all the help!
