Oh No ! Here We Go Again

Let's hope Obama's EPA is less injurious to the trucking industry than it has been to the coal industry.

How many miles is too many? (used cargo van)

The van I drive was a former lease vehicle from Ryder's fleet. It came with all mainteneance records as well. If interested check out www.usedtrucks.ryder.com Ryder has vans and Sprinters. They have something like 50 sales locations all acoss the country. A couple of tips... don't pay...

How many miles is too many? (used cargo van)

Benzoid... I have bought several used vans all of which had 150,000 miles or more at time of purchase. The van I drive everyday was purchased from Ryder trucks. It is a 2003 Ford E350 Super Duty w/7.3L diesel... I paid $4500 for this van. Currently, this van shows 453,000 miles and drives...

100k van miles preemptive maint items

With my Fords I never really experienced any wear and tear issues until after 200K miles. Somewhere between 200-300k, the serpentine belt is easily compromised, so I replace belts about every 100k miles. Ford's alternators often burn out around every 150k miles, so I generally replace...

    Manual Trans in Cargo Van?

Cheri... my wife recently bought a Mazda Miata with a 5-speed manual transmission. Zippy little car, but I don't like driving at eye level with a kid on a tricycle.

Why not use a trailer with a van or pick up?

The idea of using a cargo van as the power unit for a combination vehicle seems a little unusual. Maybe if one had a manual transmission and a heavy duty upgrade. Prolonged use of the stock automatic transmission as an integral part of the drivetrain which is pulling a small trailer strikes me...

    Fuel Stats Cargo Van

Those MPG's are impressive. My Ford diesels avg about 18mpg. Given the price differential for fuel (gas v. diesel) I am tempted to go with a gasoline engine on my next purchase. If convinced it would last 500k miles, I would definitely/maybe make the change. Once an O/O gets locked into a...

    Buying a 200k+ mi E350?

Luke, the E350's with the 7.3L diesel are tremendously strong performers. Two of mine have over 700,000 miles. The one I currently drive has 360K. Reliability is no issue. There has been a recall to replace the cam sensor on 7.3L Powerstrokes. Had mine replaced by the Ford dealer, took...

    Tire advice for vans

Highway Star... your luck with alignments have been better than mine. My 1998 E350 seemed difficult to maintain with regard to alignment. My 2001 was somewhat better and the 2003's are better yet. Perhaps I need to take my trucks to a different shop and hope for improved results. Typically...

    Tire advice for vans

Hey Guido... I think you and I drive the same model of Ford van. 2003 E350 with 7.3 Powerstroke engine. The 7.3L is a very large and heavy engine. This heavy engine exerts too much stress on front-end components such as suspension and affects tire wear. Having owned four of these 7.3L vans...

    Sprinter Buying Advice?

Rabbit, you've had an outstanding day. You just saved $25,000 hard earned dollars. Sprinters aren't an entry level vehicle, that's for sure. Rolling the dice with a much cheaper used Ford or GM van is a good start. There is a business near where I live, Superior Mobility of Lexington,KY...

    2011 Nissan NV

Saavy? I think you meant savvy. I don't suppose Nissan makes a diesel engine for cargo vans. The Ford E350 Extended can haul 3 standard pallets (42x48). Yes, it's a new entrant into the cargo van market, but size and strength matter.

    e350 van

Need more info. How long have you owned this vehicle? Does engine stall out while driving? (If so, could be cam sensor). How many miles are showing on odometer? Ever replace fuel filters? Replace fuel pump? Drain water from fuel?

Ford power stroke 6.0 vs 7.3

Hands down, the 7.3 is a superior engine. Properly maintained, you can easily expect 600,000- 700,000 miles. And then some. I contend the 7.3L Powerstroke is the finest diesel engine, in its class, ever produced. Truly awesome.

    E250 or E350

    E250 or E350

Well... I weigh just 160 lbs and my vans are stripped pretty bare of excess weight. As it stands currently, I can and do haul freight up to around 2800 lbs with no difficulty.

    E250 or E350

Hi Guido... I have a couple of 2003 E350's presently. Both with the 7.3 diesel. Like you, I bought one from Ryder and it is terrific. My question is about the empty weight.... mine only weigh about 6400 lbs empty. So, I was curious how yours came in at 7500 lbs. Did you install some heavy...
