Run on my own authority or go with big guys

You also have some shippers that don't want to deal with a carrier unless they have a minimum # of trucks or that you have had your authority for over a year, etc. Like Dennis said, it can take some deep pockets to make it work.

i have question .should i stay or should i go

Have you looked at trucking outside of expedite? There are other sectors of the industry that would not keep you close to home. I would imagine that somebody out there (airlines, freight forwarders, regional carriers, etc.) has runs between Phoenix and Tuscon. My point is just to not cut...

let me know what you think? am I being screwed?

I'm sure it was good to run into some other drivers from that company. Hopefully, you exchanged contact info to be able to compare notes in the future. If that is the way they run their operation, I wouldn't hold out much hope there. Even if you and a few other drivers raise a stink...

let me know what you think? am I being screwed?

Sounds like you're getting hosed there. I've never heard of a carrier not being able to tell you what the load pays. The customer has to provide them with either a vehicle request or with pcs/wt/dims, so dispatch should at the very least be able to tell you if it is a cargo van or straight...

    need help with manifests

What is meant by "if applicable to the rating of the freight?" Rating as in the LTL world where it would put it into a freight class? Or is it just rating as in what the customer is charged? If the latter, then it might not matter. Carrier would charge the customer the same rate if it is...

    C & M trucking, any input

I have heard them referred to as a "carrier's carrier." They don't handle NLM or PTM loads, but I believe they are setup with the GPS alliance. I've heard that a lot of carriers broker loads to them. I've never known anyone that drove for them.

Old fishermen never die, they just smell that way

Read through some of the old posts out here. Most expedite companies use owner operators. If you don't currently own your own truck, you should be able to find a good deal on a newer used one. Talk to recruiters, but more importantly--try to talk to drivers for that company. Everyone's...

    Independent van rates?

I worked in shipping a couple of years ago and we did a fair amount of expedite. Just like your operating cost may be more or less than anyone else on this forum, so it goes with carriers. Carrier A may pay their dispatchers more, have software that costs more, more expensive rent, etc...

If ur new or old, things Ive learned.

Coleman makes a cooler that you can either run off of a standard wall outlet or plug into the cigarette lighter---can be used standing on end like a dorm room fridge or laying down like an ice chest. If the engine is going to be of a while, I'll stop and get a fountain drink and fill an old...
