    Previous careers

Various desk jobs. I worked for the IRS, but left that because I wanted a less taxing job, then spent the next 11 years at a couple banks and a financial services company, sold mutual funds for a bit, then went into expediting because things were slow in the financial services industry. (or I...

Looking For Sprinter Van Loads "Please Help"

Sprinter freight was great when I bought mine in 2007, and went downhill not long after. There's a reason the Sprinter has since been sold and I'm now driving a desk.

You might be an Expediter if you...

Has anyone pulled the car into a coop? Yep, did that one a few months ago when I didn't get a green light on the EZPass that's in the car.

You might be an Expediter if you...

Even if you've been off the road for almost a year and you still find yourself: 1. Going 65 in the middle lane of the interstate in a 70 mph zone...in a car. 2. Wondering why people have to look over their shoulders to back up a car when there are two perfectly good mirrors on the vehicle...

Which Companies do not require a CDL?

Same here. Whole lot easier to move straights these days.

    LRT, Landshark, or Errands 1st

We only have two cargo vans left and if they quit I'm not so sure I'm going to replace them. With the straights it's odd if one of them has hours and is still sitting at the end of the day, but with the vans you have to fight tooth and nail to get anything resembling a decent rate. The last...

Which Companys Do Not Require a CDL To Drive A Cargo Van ?

We don't require a CDL because it's not required by law to operate anything that isn't over 26k gvw, but to tell the truth, we're starting to focus more on straights now anyway.

Starting out Brand New to the business.... Please Help!

You can make do with an 18' box but I wouldn't go out in a day cab. The road is hard enough with a good sleeper. We have an 18' truck running for us and there is a good amount of freight that fits. That truck also has a decent sized sleeper. With that said, a larger box will get you more...

    Looking for a Broker

They didn't force you to deadhead anywhere if you owned the van. If you need to get home and there isn't freight going there, deadheading is still your decision and not something you're forced to do by your carrier. I'm still looking for that magic freight wand some people think carriers have.

Best companies to be leased on with.

That's a team out of Missouri. They're in PA now. I'm back home.

Best companies to be leased on with.

I'm not going to get into the companies, because I might be biased on that end, but as to the vehicle, if I was starting out right now, I wouldn't get anything smaller than a dock high straight. My wife and I ran for the summer in an 18' truck and hardly ever sat. Now I have another team in...

    Hot shot trucks and loads

Are you filling out a contract with a partner carrier, or trying to lease the trucks on somewhere? A lot of those partner agreements have an area like that.

    Cargo Van Pay

I just looked at that and it looked to me like the vans were getting $1 to $1.05, which might have been with fsc lumped in. It looks kind of old though.

    Cargo Van Pay

Well, $1 to $1.05 is about what it takes to win a bid board load these days for a van. It seems that you're looking at a carrier hauling mostly bid board loads and wanting to make the same profit they were making when the rates were higher. I would also venture a guess that it's a van heavy...

    First post

You want that many miles a week, you'd better be looking at a straight. We have straight teams getting those kind of miles but anything resembling a van is a different story these days. I'm saying that as someone who spent 3 years in a Sprinter.

    cargo weight

The vans need whatever edge they can get, but overloading is just bad all the way around. I don't think it will happen because it would be darn near impossible to enforce. And you're not what I would call a lowly driver. You're a consummate pro. :)

    cargo weight

Like I said before. 4000 lbs is a straight truck load. Period. The problem is now you can't get straight truck money for 4000 lb loads because of companies putting them on vans. I say maybe it's high time to scale vans. That would put a stop to that pretty fast.

    Fixed that. You're welcome.

    cargo weight

You know one major problem I'm having with companies putting 4000 lbs on vans? It's getting harder to get a decent rate for anything that heavy. I tried bidding one today for a straight truck and the broker told me what the low bid was for the load and it was quite obvious it was someone...

got van lookn 4 a job in the carolinas

There are a few carriers who will take people with little or no experience, but there are a few things you need to consider. 1. You don't have to limit yourself to a carrier based where you live. While a few carriers might have a small customer base near their home terminal, most expedite...
