Yup, I'm in Michigan and I rented a 26' straight truck from Penske with air brakes. A friend of mine just rented the same type of truck last weekend (in Michigan), he does not have a cdl. May be worth checking into.

i rented a 26 foot straight truck so my wife could get some experience before she attended a 2 day, one on one, CDL course in Grand Rapids, MI. For us, it was well worth the money for the course. There may be something similar in your area.
