New DOT physical qualifications start May 21st

You don't need to redo the sleep test every year, all I have to do is show a print out from my CPAP machine showing compliance with usage requirements and good results from the use. Been that way for me for my last 3 physicals.

    Looking for a team driver.

Hi, my name is Justin Laber. I drive a straight truck for Panther that is owned by Tony Cobello of PSC trucks. My co-driver was let go by Panther, and I need a new co-driver. The truck is a 2007 Freightliner 6 speed manual with approximately 540,000 miles. It has a fridge, freezer...

    Best Wifi

The best Wifi for my laptop and tablet comes from my phone. Unlimited 4G Verizon data, and rooted for unlimited tethering. I used around 60GB/month. That means I have to pay full price for all future phones to keep the unlimited. :(

    Does Panther reimburse EZ-Pass tolls?

Hi, I was thinking about getting EZ-Pass for my straight truck, and I am wondering how that works with Panther. Do they still reimburse the tolls even though I wouldn't have individual receipts to send in? What would I send in to them? Thanks! Justin

Expedite With Tractor and Pup Trailer?

Pallud, I would want to do it because I don't want to pull a 53 foot trailer. I tried that, I never got comfortable with that size equipment. Zorry, are you sure about that? I can't find any info on their website. Would I have to call their recruiters to find out?

Expedite With Tractor and Pup Trailer?

Has any company thought about expediting with a tractor and short trailer? It seems to me that this would offer some advantages over a straight truck, such as larger/heaver loads, and letting solo drivers prosper since they could drive 500 miles and then swap the trailer to another driver. I...

    $1.20 a mile ?

My co-driver and I get $1.30/mile with Panther. Yes it's $1.20 plus the nickel for team and the nickel for hazmat. I have been tracking our miles, and we have averaged 2675 miles per week this year. Now, that includes all settlements every week, including weeks that are very slow due to...

Can I deduct certain medical expenses?

Thanks for the reply Frank, but I'm still a little confused. Does that mean I can deduct the sleep study on Schedule C? But the equipment can only be a personal deduction, and only if I itemize, and only above the 7.5%? Thanks again! Justin

Can I deduct certain medical expenses?

Hello, I have a question about deducting medical expenses. I had to get a sleep study for my medical card, and now that I know I have sleep apnea, I have to get a CPAP machine for my medical card. My crappy insurance won't cover any of this, so I'm paying several thousand dollars out of...

    Gps

If you need commercial truck routing, go for the Rand McNally TND 510. I recently got it, and my co-driver and I like it. It hasn't let us down yet, and we've used it in NYC and Long Island.

    What a mess!

Was the at the TA in Wildwood, FL? If so, I was there to see the cleanup. It took them over 7 hours to clean it all up.

    Re:Tolls

Re: Tolls Yes, I'm confused about tolls as well. Can I claim all toll expenses on my taxes, even if Panther reimburses them? When Panther reimburses them to my Owner, who then reimburses me, does that show as income on my 1099? Are tolls the same as FSC, where I claim all expenses, show all...

    Per Diem Questions

Hey all, I have a few questions about per diem. I drive a straight truck with sleeper, so I know I can claim per diem. However, some things about it confuse me. 1. Can I automatically claim 80% of $59 for each full day away from home? Or do I have to track all meal expenses and claim up to...

    Online backup

I use Sugarsync. It is installed on both my laptop and my home desktop. It backs up my important files on both computers to the cloud and keeps the files on both computers in sync. You get 5gb of storage for free, or can buy more. Like someone else said, be careful of data caps if you use...

Waste of a Class A CDL

If that's the class of truck they want to drive, they may just be meeting their carrier's requirements. I don't know how most carriers operate, but Panther requires a CDL A for straight trucks even if they're under 26k.

    QualComm Text Messages

I have Verizon service, and I got a text from QualComm today informing me that I have been enrolled in their service, so it may be back up and running. :)

    Tethering a smartphone

I got around this problem by buying an offline gps program from the app market for $5. It stores the maps on the phone. This also helps when driving thru those random areas where I can't get a data signal.

    Upgrading :)

I'm leaving the solo van life and upgrading to a straight truck driving team. I know I'm giving up a life, but hopefully I'll stop breaking even and gain an actual income in exchange. Wish me luck! :D

    Real Answers

The only time Panther did this to me was when I was carrying a "Spotlight" load where the customer dictated direct delivery, logged into Panther's site to monitor my progress, and called Panther to ask why I stopped. Panther told me for those loads you should be proactive and call Panther to...
