August locations.... Here come the dog days

Uh ohhhh.....And I just turned down an offer to get the AC fixed [long story]. If it's that hot, don't look for my EO bumpersticker at the truckstop, I'll be splurging on some indoor plumbing & cable tv! And air conditioning. ;)

    Other drivers killing us!

Very few fleet owners would instruct drivers to accept every offer - in fact, I don't know of a single one who would do that. Leaving aside the question of employee vs contractor, it's not a productive strategy for maximizing revenue, or for keeping drivers, either.

    B i r !

I think I would really enjoy that, it sounds like my idea of fun, [just nuts!], but am loaded for delivery in SC. PS "Black Liver Falls" is my new favorite typo, lol. :D

    Pulled Muscle

That was a very interesting debate, lol. Without taking sides, I'd just like to say that one doesn't need to carry heat or ice packs, as both can be quickly made from things we generally have on hand or can get [free!] at any truck stop. Ice pack: put a large cup of ice chips in a plastic bag...

Does anyone do expediting part time? Yes, that sounds insane, but hear me out

When we stop picking on him, then you should start worrying: we do it because we like him. And because he never threatens to beat us up for it, lol. ;) Back on topic: there's some good stuff here for newbies.

Newbie Advice For 1st Time Driving Position?

If you don't want to take Mcavoy's offer [or if Noneya beat you to it, lol], then maybe you could rewrite your ads & refocus your 'pitch' to address the obvious issues: location & inexperience. Stressing your willingness to team and to stay out for long periods may help overcome the doubts &...

How Goes the New 34-Hour Restart for You?

This is what I'm finding, too - and it's what I was afraid would happen: drivers taking the 30 minutes in the fuel lanes, because it's the most convenient, and they know no one can do anything to stop them. How FMCSA can require trucks to park for 30 minutes midshift, when they know that parking...

    Food

It's called Skyline Chili, but I haven't seen anything like it [chili with cinnamon over spaghetti, topped with American cheese] in Minnesota. Course, in a state where Sven & Olaf's Pizza is one of the best, it wouldn't surprise me, lol. PS You can get the Skyline in the frozen food section now...

OMG I shoulda slept in the van!

Actually, I didn't do it - I was in the attached bathroom getting all gussied up. When I saw the guilty party holding his drink above the foam, I said "OMG!! You're going to have water all over the carpet!!" and he said "There isn't any water in here, it's all foam!" We bailed it out with...

OMG I shoulda slept in the van!

I won't say which hotel/motel, because it isn't important [and they might remember me!] but if you get a room with a jacuzzi, don't put Mr Bubble in it. ;) Other than that, I've never had a really bad experience with rental rooms.

August locations.... Here come the dog days

Looks like acquitted stole your sigline, lol. But you know how that goes: we take turns. ;)

making the decision to go for it

Welcome! Your first question is easy to answer: of course you can jump into this without any money - people have done it many times. Of course, the first time the truck is down for repair for a couple days, leaving you with extra expenses [ even if it's just motel bills] and no income, you'll...

    Locking Gas Cap

Great reply, mj. Especially because you quoted the question, which clarifies the response. The first post after Tony's question [#28] was kind of confusing [but in a hilarious way] until I figured out BobWolf wasn't referring to the photo.... :o

    63% of women are idiots

Um, you lost me on that one, Rocket, but probably not. Nor would I diss the Bronies - some of them could probably outshoot me. Like Leo. Wait! I did NOT say Leo is a Brony, either! [But lord, wouldn't that be a kick?!];)

Need advice on team driving opportunities

That your friend is offering the chance to do what you want, and you're wondering what else might be available, says you have some reservations about sharing the road with that friend. Perhaps if you take Turtle's advice, but add an expiration date, say 60 or 90 days, to decide whether to...

    Power napping

I think Moot pegged it: if you don't feel able to sleep when the opportunity arises, then you probably don't need the sleep. A break from the driver's seat is a good thing, though, esp if you stretch out & close your eyes. Or close your eyes and do some stretches - making sure your codriver is...

    63% of women are idiots

The statement in the thread title is as wrong as claiming that "63% of men are idiots" because they disagree as to which 'My Little Pony" is prettier, using a poll from the "Men Who Love My Little Ponies" website. And yes, there really are such men, and more of them than I would have believed...

Starting to sort thru all the information

Welcome! One thing I think you have wrong is that FedEx has more loads because they are bigger, or more well known [to the general public]. Other carriers have access to the same load boards, and many have their own [more or less] loyal customers. If you wouldn't like being a small fish in a...
