    Boycott the NFL

The NFL certainly has the right to reject advertising that doesn't meet it's standards. And that ad was pretty lame in the obvious effort to hit all the hot buttons among a certain group - I'd have rejected it just for being so clearly fearmongering. And sexist, too: for not suggesting that the...

    Non CDL Truck Question

If it's business or tech you want to learn more about, there's a lot available, including EO's contributions [I mean the official ones, lol]. But for hands on, practical stuff, improving or sharpening the skills that could mean avoiding a crash, we're pretty much on our own. We could be doing...

    Non CDL Truck Question

I tried -called a place [actually, a person] in Pa, he said he had to cancel it because there weren't enough people signed up. This is an area where it surprises me that most carriers don't do more to encourage drivers to sharpen their skills. I understand that FedEx does something like a...

    Interesting article on expediting

"Save the day"? After pointing out the lack of raiment on the ruler, I'll be lucky to save my bacon, lol. But somebody needs to say it, and to paraphrase Toby Keith: I'm just the driver to do it. :o

    Non CDL Truck Question

See, Paullud, you get it: whether one is a contract driver, a trucker, or a furniture salesman is irrelevant [except to some people], what matters is whether you know the right answer. Turtle drives a Sprinter, I drive a S/T [and have driven T/T], but the assumption that my answer would be...

    It's a Team's Life Seat Belts Save LIVES! : It's a Team's Life

Of course we should wear our seat belts - but it doesn't make anyone a safer driver. It protects the driver - and the insurance carrier, and that's the reason it's a law. The reason it's a CSA violation is as Moose described, and that, IMO, is just wrong. To assign any CSA points at all, much...

    Perfect Coffee Cup

Obsess? Nah, for a driver, the coffee mug is a tool, right? It needs to be the best quality, or it doesn't do the job well. I have a Copco mug, & it doesn't leak. Doesn't keep the coffee hot, but it keeps it inside. At least, until I knock it over, which is the one drawback to a taller cup.

    Non CDL Truck Question

But it's not a sad thing when furniture salesmen can diss contract drivers on open discussion boards [for drivers] by calling them "Non Truckers" - nope, it's pretty funny, actually. ;) PS The legitimate answer is the one that can be defended by citing chapter & verse in The Book, because the...

    Thanksgiving

Tomorrow, you can be thankful that you have an account to see 'whither', instead of panic mode because you don't. Good call. ;) I'm home for Thanksgiving, which is unusual. My sister is cooking, and asked me to bring dessert. I found a peppermint cream pie [with chocolate cookie crust!], and...

    November Locations - What's your 20?

IRT: I am very sorry for your loss. And for your wife's - I can't even imagine living without a stomach.

    Interesting article on expediting

I don't know what 'velocity' means, but as I read, I could hear Lawrence saying "Velocity, baby!" lol. The article confirmed one thing I've observed: expedite is often more about exclusive use than speed. I imagine that correcting the problem of freight loaded on the wrong truck or delivered to...

    bad owners

Maybe [just maybe], if you stop thinking of it as 'luck', and do some research on the potential owner, [esp talking to other drivers who are/were driving for him/her] and verify that what is promised verbally is stated in writing as well [aka a contract], you might find your luck improves.

    Non CDL Truck Question

Oh, the answer is known, and Paullud & Turtle posted it. What's typical is that it gets argued anyhow.

    I'm gonna get crushed

True dat! There are also some smart, experienced people who earned the snazzy truck with the blue fenders, [Tom & Tina's] so it can be done - just don't bite off more than you can chew too fast. As Turtle says: slow & steady wins. [Except when you arrive at the consignee at the same time as...

    I'm gonna get crushed

If one is minding the phone & computer while the other sleeps, who's driving? Seriously: if finding your own loads were that easy, most of us would be doing it. I don't think it would be such a breeze for someone with little to no experience in expediting. Plus, the multi carrier model works for...

FAA to "check" overweight pilots for restful sleep..

It would be so nice to see, just for a change, the guilty parties penalized, and the rest of us left alone.

So how did it work out for them?

    People in TX are backwards

I keep hearing the line about the states' rights, and the Federal government not following the Constitution, but I think the biggest problem is how we have let money buy legislators and legislation. It makes no difference what we, the people, want, when we are sold out. And I disagree on the...

Winter clothes for around the house or in the truck

I wear jeans, and if it's really, really cold, I'll wear pantyhose underneath. [About the only time I wear them anymore, lol]. I think flannel lined would be too warm, and too heavy to wash and dry. Mostly I drive barefoot, or sock feet. My shoes are always the kind that slip off, and I never...
