Our Government & Welfare & Davy Crockett

One can't have it both ways. Government should stay out of business but that doesn't happen. Government has interjected themselves into every business through regulation. That is why you have what you have. It isn't government welfare until the government is out of the private sector. You...

    How free are we?

Excellent article. The "true poor" or people in dire need, is roughly 10 percent of the welfare rolls. That number has changed little over the last thirty years. The other ninety percent are your basic "takers".

What's wrong with our ThermoKing APU!!

Several things. For the truck itself, if it had a blown or replaced compressor, it is likely you have debris in the system. Especially if it keeps going out and they find no freon leak. It is likely clogging the orifice tube or clogging up the expansion valve. Only real fix is to replace...

    How free are we?

I think there is a real problem in this country when we define "poor". The standard here is much different. There are all kinds of jobs currently available that they don't want to do. Every excuse imaginable from "I don't work for 10.00 per hour, I'm not working those hours, to I don't work...

    Life changes

Hang in there. There is no part of your circumstances that are easy. We have a elderly family member as well that is kind of in the same situation. Thankfully we have many family members that can rotate the time with him. While it can certainly be a challenge at times, make the most out of your...

    APU advice??

You wouldn't have to but it is recommended. One less belt running is better for the engine and economy.

    APU advice??

If you have a rigmaster and it isn't keeping up in the heat because of a large or poorly insulated sleeper, you can disassemble the ac unit. Take lines and compressor out. Add a roof top unit with a breaker and connect it directly to the unit. At 5k of output, that can run a rooftop easily...

How many miles from a team can I expect to get? FedEx CC

Are you sure? I seen a quote from a nameless carrier executive that said "it was all about the miles". ;)

    The Biden Brawlers

This was too funny not to post. Amongst all of the Obama scandals, old Joe has to have at least one. EXCLUSIVE: Biden's brawlers: Veep's security team squared off in Nantucket melee | Fox News

More crap hitting the fan! Hoping this isn't a sign of the times!

I remember reading something on this from PA and I think NJ. If I remember correctly, it only pertained to carriers and people operating with their own authority. If your truck was leased to someone it wasn't a issue. I would go with the advice of contacting OOIDA for all up to date information.

Wow! Stuck in Texas for 3 days, again! Am I ever gonna learn.

Kind of hard not to get something worthy out of TX. Then again, not sure what carrier you are with or whether it is bad for vans? No idea? We do well out of there with straights.

    Turnover Rates

Some interesting replies. Some I suspected but since I am not in it, it is harder to access the other side. You do see less of them and from what I see are older units. It will be interesting see what direction it takes over the next couple of years. I have to admit for single truck, that 300k...

Read This Before Buying a Navistar Engine or International Truck

Would be a reason to hit the pause button for those that might be contemplating a purchase.

    Turnover Rates

Regardless of the carrier, for those doing reefer work now, would you recommend a new reefer purchase in todays market? Just out of curiosity. I know how I look at it from a fleet owner perspective, but would one advise say a 200K to 250K investment? As Phil mentioned, there is the investment...

    Turnover Rates

That is where the difficulty comes in with many carriers attempting the reefer freight dream. If the seven trucks is accurate, it is a tough gig for a saleman to sell because he can't provide adequate coverage unless they hike the price. Why? Because as they expand, they may have to broker a...

    Turnover Rates

I think Phil hit the nail on the head with regards to current practices. It would make sense in his case to review the potential but if someone was looking for something new, those rates would have to be consistently higher. In all fairness, there is two dollar and up per mile loads but I am...
