    My 2015 Ford Transit Experience

Let's face it. The operators right foot would greatly affect those numbers. Many of you guys are much more patient drivers than others. Steady saves fuel. I wouldn't put too terribly much weight on those numbers. I would be willing to bet I could make an 05-06 Sprinter get 15-16 MPG. I don't...

No. But there's a "make more per all-miles and actually run some miles" plan. But the cellular service provider has nothing to do with that plan.

Are you sure Verizon can fix what's wrong with YOUR phone? ;)

OH has been slow all week. There's certainly been less freight moving in the other states where we've been watching as well. Or at least posted loads. But we've been fortunate several times out of some areas this week. PA, NY, MI, OH & NC. Hopefully KY, TN & MO(for Fri AM) are active today...

    Van insulation

That brown board that Lowe's sells back against the back wall. It's about $8-$9 a 4x8 sheet and slick. Easy to cut and work with.

GPS Microsoft Kills Off Streets & Trips, MapPoint

Ok, GPSes infallible? No. Pros and cons? There's plenty that could be said both ways. I'm betting each's opinion would not be swayed by mere words on a blog. Admittedly, I have owned a few versions of Streets & Trips and have built many a courier route on it. Many, many. Blah!

But wait. If you're saying $4K profit? No. We don't NEED to make $4K profit off each truck each week. That's the beauty of this. We're low overhead.

And yes. We have profited as little as $62.50 off a load with our drivers. And less, even. Off one load. Not one week. But they generally run several loads a week and we make (profit) between that measly $62.50 up to about $140. By the way, why do you care what Sally & I make per load off our...

I think we made $4K off Drifter last week. He ran hard. But that's HIS business. Last week was good. This week? Who knows? We don't look at each week as much as each rodeo. Actually, I look at both. But at the end of the day we care ONLY about our guy's happiness. If they aren't happy, we are...

Absolutely correct, Paul. As our guys know, they are on the CE team! No big company picnics or truck washes yet. But we try to make sure they know they ARE as much Crossroads Express as we are. I think they do, as we all communicate well daily and more. Whether or not freight is flying. We all...

Yeah. I just called back on one (in Taylor). Poster conveniently away from their desk. I sooooo wish these kids, posting their loads, had time to answer the phone. Oh well, such is life. And it was a good load. No one negotiates any more. At all. At all. It's eBay. Almost every time. Except...

    Vehicle Question / Which Carrier

Is that supposed to be a dig? Check. Check. And check!! Is bigger better? In some respects, yes. In some respects, no. The drivers need to determine what THEY need. If the carrier can provide that, who loses, regardless of that carrier's size? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Ummm......

GPS Microsoft Kills Off Streets & Trips, MapPoint

Garmins have saved me, and the drivers that ran for me over the last 12 years, thousands if dollars of lost fuel & productivity. I used to even give away Garmins as driver safety awards. They were always well received. Productivity is good! I always loved checking back with a driver a couple of...

    Say Hi to July

YES!!! Mondays have sucked for quite a while. No doubt. But we are the type of carrier to NOT take that as "okay" and we dig all day every day, trying as hard as we can to make our drivers as much as they want. It's difficult. Really. But that is our lot in life. We love it and think that our...

Do cargo vans even have any sort of future in expediting?

If one fails 50% of the time in expediting, they're best to get out. Unless you count % of bids won. That can be a very low percentage.

Do cargo vans even have any sort of future in expediting?

True. We all fail on occasion. The more you do, as a business, the more opportunities you face to fail.
