    So Long

I'm no logistics expert, but it would seem to me it would be more practical and cheaper to send out another batch of QCs next day UPS than to pay drivers $100 a day to sit. The originally shipped QCs could be sent back to Pantherville via slow boat, when and if they ever arrive.

    So Long

I just got a call from Panther. My old friend won't be replaced today and probably not tomorrow either. Instead of sending my QC UPS Next Day, somebody shipped it standard ground. I sometimes question Panther's claims to be a leader in expedite and global logistics when they can't send a...

    So Long

So long my old friend. Today you are being replaced by a newer, smaller, more advanced model. You've been with my current van since May, 2004. Costing me just over $18,000 for your companionship. That $18,000 could have bought me 5,000 gallons of gasoline. Oh the places I could have gone...

    Dodge Promaster

My basic rule of thumb for expediting is add at least 800 pounds to the curb weight for the bare necessities and creature comforts. 200 lbs. driver 200 lbs. fuel 100 lbs. aux. batteries 100 lbs. E-track, straps, beam pockets, load bar, flooring 100 lbs. bed, insulation, walls, bulkhead 100...

    Dodge Promaster

I'm not a motorhead. If I bought a Promaster it would be to haul freight not race Sprinters. My 6.0 GM puts out 100 more lbs-ft of torque than the Promaster. I equate the more than adequate power to get the job done to my engine's longevity.

    Dodge Promaster

I would think the Promaster would beat out the NV in a fuel economy contest. Two concerns I have about the Promaster are the underpowered Pentastar gas engine (durability over the long haul) and the weight distribution with the front wheel drive.

    Dodge Promaster

My Chevy is at 8'' from the lowest point on the differential housing to the ground. The Promaster may appear to have a low clearance being it has a solid, straight beam rear axle.

Unions tend to float others boats. I worked for a non-union LTL carrier. Our wages were always slightly less than the current Master Freight Agreement. The disparity was never more than .50/hour or .03/mile. We paid no dues and participated in a company profit sharing program and a matching...

    Taking the plunge

Driving for a fleet owner is a good way to get a feel for expediting. During your apprenticeship pretend the van is yours. Drive it like you own it, not stole it. Keep a record of all revenue the van generates, not just your cut. Keep track of all fuel purchases and fuel mileage. Record all...

No they don't do it for thank you letters. Unions are businesses. Some like the UAW and Teamsters are big businesses. They have payrolls, mortgages, leases and all other types of costs associated with running a business. Bribes and kickbacks only cover a small portion of these costs.

    GM Fuel Pump

That isn't necessary on the newer GMs. The late 1990's and early 2000s were notorious for burning up fuel pumps. I ran into many vanners that did just that. My 1998 went about 185,000 before the pump died. Most puked at 100,000. I attribute the extra life to fueling before reaching a ¼ tank...

    Sleeper on m2 straight 26ft

I worked for a company when 48 footers became legal. They began stretching their existing 40 and 42 footers. These were interior post and skin construction. They would cut the trailer somewhere near the center, off setting the frame cuts and add in the 6 or 8 feet. I would think this same...
