    Insurance Option

I would rather have them base some of the rates on a persons credit. All the statistics as a group show that folks with poor credit history carry a higher risk. There are always exceptions, but they are looking at it as a group. As that continues to be used, it keeps my rates lower so we benefit.

    *need help* out of fuel!!!

Probably need to call the fleet owner or the carrier and get an advance. That is probably the quickest way with a comcheck.

    Carrier cutting rates

Cutting the rate or pay to the drivers doesn't necessarily translate in to a rate reduction to the customer. "Watch what they do, not what they say". As for the T-shirt idea, pretty genius for a drivers reward program. ;)

Should You run for Multiple Carriers? Part 2

That is it. "The good owner op". In the van sector you have many just going paycheck to paycheck and have nothing to lose. It is that reason they could care less. Same reason many drive around with no auto insurance.

Should you run for Multiple Carriers? Read this first!

I think you are looking at two different issues. The ones that run cheap because they have lower costs (ex. running with no or limited insurance) and the ones that simply are clueless as to what their costs are to operate. Gotta get them "miles" whether they are making anything or not. Then...

Should you run for Multiple Carriers? Read this first!

Most have insurance if they are driving a regulated vehicle. But on vans or under 10k trucks, some are running around with just a basic auto policy. Insurance company is clueless that they are hauling freight with it. All kinds of gaming going on with load insurance as well. I am aware of a few...

    Phones for the dead

Probably time to scrap the free "Obama phones". Abuse here is likely the same in many other programs. Giving phones to dead people makes about as much sense as giving billions to Egypt. Lawmaker looks to rein in program after free cell phones sent to dead people | Fox News

Should you run for Multiple Carriers? Read this first!

My opinion hasn't changed since this has started. For the rate the "bottom feeders" haul at, the exposure and costs are too high verses the return. If one wants to haul for other carriers, get with a carrier that allows you to run under their authority or get your own. The article is correct in...

    Carrier cutting rates

Some do it through third party billing as mentioned and some hold the line on the rate but skim the FSC. It goes on so much it is almost a common day practice with some nameless carriers.

    Carrier cutting rates

For someone doing it awhile I would agree. For someone new they might not recognize it if it was being done from the beginning. They wouldn't have anything to compare it to. I am not refering to any one company in particular.

    Carrier cutting rates

By law they have to show the customer invoice. That is much different than whether they do or will. Doesn't matter on the mileage companies but it is a factor on a percentage paying one.

    Carrier cutting rates

That is a shocker to me. I wasn't aware of any one at that rate other than the "all miles" folks. I stand corrected. Not sure why they can't get that changed? They don't even advertise at that rate.

    Carrier cutting rates

That is kinda of a maybe. Many times it comes down to a percentage of what? We have done both and there are two sides to that coin. Many nameless carriers run loads through a dummy company they own just to drop the bill so the percentage is less. Some will show you the customer bills and some...

    How do you really feel?

I guess all the current vanners are going to be fleet owners.

    Carrier cutting rates

A "race to the bottom" is pretty much what that represents. As for Panther and 1.10 trucks, the only ones I have heard of at that rate were the 1.10 plus FSC for all miles. I am surprised anyone is on that plan any more but apparently a few still are? That is why it wasn't mentioned.
