I don't run for Load 1, but it seems that the shore power idea would be a great one. A place to plug in your block heater, space heater and electric blanket. Sleeping warm in peace and quiet.
Good to hear no one was seriously injured.
I don't no what advice I could give to restore your confidence except to say that even the best drivers make mistakes at some point. I always try to learn from my mistakes and not let them happen again.
Good luck to you.
Ours shuts down and restarts whenever it wants. We can be on a run or sitting in a truck stop idling. So now we have to stay available on the phone or we could miss an op while it is doing its thing.
Dispatch has not been able to poll us while on a run for 10 days now. So we have to send a...
We don't hear the new chime as well as we did the old beep, especially if the stereo is playing. Ours is mounted on the dash mount that fits on the Columbia. We look for the message light that is green like everything else. (Red would have been better)
Are we now allowed to use the macro for...
Ours turns itself off and the back on whenever it feels like it. We have to stay available on phone as we don't know when it will decide to shut down again.
Dispatch has not been able to track us for 10 days now. Every 2 hours while on a run we get a current location request.

At home in Florida again.
A great January. 10795 miles. Over 15K gross. And home for 2 - 3 day weekends.
Sure is nice to be out of the snow. High today will be 71.
I had the same thought last year. Buy 2 new Sprinters with sleepers, get 2 good H/W teams and make lots of money. Do the research and the math and you will quickly discover that the money (if any) just ain't there.
Our MBE 4000 with 10 speed ultrashift is running 1310 RPM's at 65 MPH. Our fuel mileage was 9.3 mpg last year. We do not have an APU so that includes idle time.
Howes Meaner Cleaner seemed to boost our MPG by about .5 mile per gallon.
Surprisingly (to me) still at home in Florida. Came home on Friday to thaw out, wash the truck, watch football and get our IFTA stickers. Didn't expect much over the 3 day weekend. Tuesday only got a few low paying load opps. At least it is warm here. High today of 73.
We would go broke in a hurry if we tried running our straight truck at van rates. If our carrier wants to put a van load on our truck they will still have to pay us the rate we need to operate or we will pass on that load.
Re: CV rates and logging
It applies to this quote from the OP.
"Why should some masked bandit..unmarked under the radar expect to get professional level rates when they are shurking, taking short cuts and not having the same expenses as someone who is being more professional and taking this...
Re: CV rates and logging
There will always be drivers, brokers, shippers, etc., that will skirt the rules to put another buck in their pocket.
Unfortunately it will be the driver that ends up with the fines when they get caught.
I think we are already starting to see the promised driver shortage.
A lot of people are trying to get out of this business and a lot do not want to get into this line of work.
All of the new regulations, CSA 2010 and proposed changes to Hours of Service regulations are chasing good people out...
