    How far will you go?

There's an assumption that I'm talking about a certain commodity in this thread. I'm speaking in general about any commodity that has an on-board courier. Although I feel for anyone that has to climb into a truck with total strangers and sit for days in a passenger seat, it is NOT my...

    How far will you go?

OK, I know that like us, some of you out there recently traded off your older double bunk sleeper trucks for a new single bunk arrangement. If you were so inclined in the older truck, the extra bunk could be offered up to a courier. I guess single bunk sleepers will not work for some couriers in...

    How far will you go?

How far will you go to accommadate a customer's Courier regardless of the length of the run? Do you have a single or double bunk sleeper? What if dispatch said the customer required that the drivers provide a bed for the courier to sleep in, regardless of the driver(s) having a bed availible for...

    Would you?

The load calculates out to $1.18/ml for all miles. Not good! But, what we don't know is: 1. Are you sitting in a good or bad area historically for load offers? 2. Does the load move you into a really good area after you empty out? 3. Was the load offered early Friday or late when the loads for...

    Flying J Effingham Ill

I'm afraid that the Homeland Security Act allows ANY law officer the authority to do a complete search of your commercial vehicle at any time, without a warrant, and nothing more than suspicion on the part of the officer. No longer is there the sanctity of one's sleeper. It ALL has become fair...

Fuel Mileage - Winter Blend yet?

Yes, that's what we typically saw in our DR-unit when we slowed down. I thought we were doing pretty good at 7.0 avg with our T-600, especially considering that our empty (no freight) weight is 46,280 lbs. With an avg of 15,000 lbs of freight we can't complain.

Fuel Mileage - Winter Blend yet?

Don't really know the answer since we rarely run that slow :P . Seriously, it only comes up a couple of tenths per mile. Not worth slowing down for (yet) in the 70-75mph states!;)

    is yours up or down

RE: The Bridge Tolls are RE: is yours up or down When on the Florida Turnpike the toll taker charges you for three axles when you only have two on the ground, do the following: If they argue with you (as has been done with me in the past) and refuse to refund you for the overcharge simply...

Fuel Mileage - Winter Blend yet?

If I don't put the Howes fuel treatment in, we also see a slight drop in our MPG. As long as I keep it mixed in with the fuel we are able to stay at 7.00 mpg running 70 mph with our 475 ISX Cummins. The Bio-diesel seems to run a bit lower than the ULSD also for us.

What if you break down or get sick?

There have been some great replies to this thread. Based on what I've read thus far, it sounds like no matter how the owner of the truck feels about a stranger driving their truck if a freight transfer can't be arranged, the carrier is going to see to it that the customer is served! Like it or...

What if you break down or get sick?

Lets inter another element to my "hypothetical" scenario: Your truck or trailer has been taken on to the delivery by a driver the carrier chose, not a trusted friend or associate. This was done even though you were not in agreement with this arrangement. Then it is returned to you damaged on...

What if you break down or get sick?

My motive in starting this thread was based on stories that at two drivers have shared recently about how this actually happened to them. One claimed it has occurred at least three times. Without being there myself, I have no choice but to take it as hearsay. Thus I wanted to pose it on the Forum...

What if you break down or get sick?

Here's a hypothetical (but potentually real) situation to ponder: You've picked up your sealed load at the shipper and part way into the run you (a T/T rig) break down or you (T/T or Straight truck) become extremely ill. Be you solo or team in a straight truck or T/T lets say circumstances keep...

    ultrashifts?

If you're looking to go clutchless, the ultrashift would be the answer in a 9,10,12, or 13 speed. The down side of this transmission is the engine rpms generally have to be at about 800 for the centrifical clutch to ingage. This takes getting used to when docking as the truck may feel like its...

The Costs and Benefits of Large Sleepers

That is an option if one chooses to do so, especially with the better built after-market sleepers like A.R.I and ICT. Some have done exactly that even though it cost (approx $5000-6000) to do so. If the truck is junk and the sleeper is worth the cost to move, the savings may well be worth the...

The Costs and Benefits of Large Sleepers

When we decided to sell our 70" sleeper for our combination 170" of sleeper area, we did so knowing it would in no way generate the additional revenue needed to offset the cost of "E". Although more affordable, when you stay with the factory sleeper "B" you are very limited on size and...
