    >A much more lasting impression was made on that grocery >store manager when I returned the groceies. Yep. That'll teach him to go out of his way to help somebody. >I'm not the kind of person who gives in when she gets her way. Then what is your goal, if not to get your way? >I wanted...

    Trucker Slang (revised again)

RE: Trucker Slang (revised) It's not trucking slang, it's trucker slang. :) Most are slang used on the CB radio. Like, when a 4-wheeler cuts in front of you and then immediately dynamites their brakes.

    Thanks to Cracker Barrel

Oooh, Good idea. Yeah, which one? They're all great, though. Good food, good people. California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, those people out there have no idea what they're missing.

    Flying J WiFi

Flying J's signal tends to be rather weak, especially for those of us sitting in the car/RV lot. Nothing worse than having a marginal signal to begin with, and then have an RV or something pull between you and the building. Most truck stop Internet connections are via satellite, which isn't as...

    Power Inverter installation

hehe That insulation took five days. Five. Days. And they were really long, deep into the night/morning days. So much for the 3-5 hours I had planned. The deck and e-track is on the floor is one of the easiest things about outfitting a van, yet a lot of people make it really hard. If the...

    07 sprinters

Standard base GVW of the 2500 is 8550. But the high roof and extended cargo area, they come in differing weights (according to my dealer). So far, I've seen nothing definitive online, including at the official sites. For Curb, Payload and GVW I see things like NA or I see numbers that don't add...

    van dies

Depends on the "profile" of the Qualcomm. The "profile" is the instructions that tell the QC how to behave under certain conditions, like when the ignition key is on or off. Most QC's are set with a profile that will have it go into QUIET mode a few minutes after the ignition is turned off. Look...

    Power Inverter installation

Well, I would mount them inside the van somewhere, if for no other reason it will keep the batteries at a reasonable temperature. Outside they get too hit, or too cold. Inside is juuuuust right. hehe Also, you want to mount the inverter as close to the batteries as possible, really close. You...

    CDL Requrements !

If you haul non-placardable HAZMAT, meaning placardable in amounts greater than 1000 pounds (from a single shipper), but not placardable in lesser amounts, you still have to have a HAZMAT endorsement on your CDL. Cargo van CDL's are Class C with either a HAZMAT or Passenger endorsement. A...

    Parking solution

The problem comes from other truck drivers seeing a truck on a lot, then they think it's OK to park there, and soon the lot can turn into a truck stop. That's why they sometimes tell you to park in back, out of sight. When returning the groceries, after the manager made the phone call and got...

    Fantastic Fan

I don't think you'd want to have the vent open and the fan running while you are moving. Epsar of Michigan (in Romulus) also sells them. They will install them, too. Get the one with the rain sensor. Worth every penny. It has three speeds, and will draw roughly 1,2 or 4 amps depending on...

    07 sprinters

Before you jump into an 07, even a 2500, check the GVW. Many of them are greater than 10,001 pounds, which means logs and scales.

    Power Inverter installation

You want to keep the main batteries and the auxiliary batteries isolated from each other, so that if you draw down the aux batteries completely, your starting battery(ies) will still start the van. This is the same configuration as having a Starting Battery Bank and a House Battery Bank on a...

    DH miles

Saw a bumper sticker a few years ago: I may be fat, but you're ugly, and I can always go on a diet. My favorite bumper sticker of all time, though, was on the back of a pickup truck, and it can certainly be adapted for any vehicle: I got this truck for my wife. Pretty good trade, huh!

    DH miles

Wow. 5%-8% deadhead in expediting? Is that even possible? Is that All Miles less Loaded Miles = DH Miles, or are your deadhead figures something else? General trucking can vary wildly, but is usually less, but in expediting, 30% is a not a bad figure, about normal. Of course, the higher your...

    Sprinter Cargo Securement

Mine isn't secured in the bracket at all. I just insert the brackets into the e-track, then drop the load bar in when I need it. It is actually easier, IMHO, to not have the wood attached to the bracket, because of that little lever on there.

    Gambling

Insurance companies take in premiums, and then largely invest it into the stock market. :) Investing in the stock market involves some risk, and some parts of it are more risky than others (options, penny stocks, commodities), but it's not betting on games of chance, which is something very...

    Gambling

You can't. Poker machines, the slots, they are all computer controlled and they (as a group) will pay out x-number of dollars only after they (as a group) have taken in a predefined x-number of dollars. A few years ago a real nasty storm slammed into Gulfport and Biloxi, Mississippi, taking...
