    Tips?

Please note the difference in what I am saying. I am not saying it is unethical to take a tip. If a customer wants to give you a genuine tip after the services are rendered, that's fine in my view. For example You do a difficult liftgate and inside delivery load of 50 pieces. When you are done...

    Tips?

Ethics has everything to do with it, at least for ethical drivers. A gratuity given after services are rendered and when nothing else is required is just that, a gratuity. Money taken directly from a customer for services that would normally be booked through the driver's carrier is theft.

    Tips?

Only once in nearly eight years of expediting have we received a tip, if you can call it that. We did a load for a cheese company and a return trip. It was a display case done up really nice to showcase their products to managers of a store chain that they hoped to place the products in. When...

    Spreadsheet learning

As stated in this Investopedia definition of ROI, ROI is a popular metric because of its simplicity and flexibility. But in that flexibility lies the ability to fool yourself by using wishful thinking when selecting your inputs. I can see using ROI if you are comparing two investments like say...

I Seriously Need Some Expert Advice

As Highway Star said, your question is difficult to answer when nothing is known about you. It's like trying to answer the question of a high school graduate..."If I go to college and then medical school, and apply myself and keep my nose clean, can I become a doctor and make lots of money?"...

TA Ontario Ca, New Rules and fees

Thank you for doing that research. Diane and I appreciate the info as I'm sure many others will too. However, don't be too quick to assume that TA is not making money off the fuel they sell us. No way they are giving it away. Even at the nice discount we receive, they are making enough to...

I-95 Bus Crash Caused By TT?

The investigation of the New York City bus crash continues as does the law enforcement crack down on tour buses that the crash inspired. Several raw statistics are included in this New York DOT press release. In 1,286 inspections, 96 buses and 124 drivers were "taken off the road." I presume...

    EOBRs and Driver Harrassment

The purpose of requiring them must be balanced against the negative effects of having them, which is what inspired the law suit mentioned above.

FYI Sharp truck for Sale (Glen Rice)

A key selling point of this truck is the low mileage (287,000). Glen picked up this truck as a repo right about the time that used truck prices had bottomed. It was not in the best of shape then but those who know Glen Rice also know that he would quickly bring it into tip-top condition...

POLL: Did You Have ANY Delivery Experience BEFORE Expediting

There is nothing scientific, accurate or reliable about most internet polls and certainly not about this one. There are a number of former white-collar or office-job workers who now work as expediters but do not participate in the Open Forum. Of the ones I know, none of them entered the...

A Natural High When Driving a Truck; Do You Get it Too?

Excerpt from my blog today: While driving today, I experienced several hours of maximum satisfaction. The weather was beautiful, the winds were mild, spring-green foliage covered the Tennessee countryside, freeway traffic was light, the road was smooth, the truck engine hummed and the tires...

POLL: Did You Have ANY Delivery Experience BEFORE Expediting

I answered "No" in the poll but I had delivery exprience that qualifies under Brisco's definition; that was a newspaper route I had when I was a boy. I was an independent contractor with the newspaper and an owner-operator with a bicycle. A CDL was not required. Unlike expediting, I collected...

Debris Removal Charge?? Permission From Dispatch??

I don't think it would be given for free but I may be wrong. Maybe someone who works in a hospital today can tell us for sure. My belief is that in these days of medical malpractice and legal liability, staff is under strict orders to NEVER provide treatment, medication or supplies of any kind...

Debris Removal Charge?? Permission From Dispatch??

Please be careful, Brisco, to not assume facts. No one at FDCC has ever talked to me or any driver I know about boosting my income. In orientation and the numerous training classes Diane and I have attended at company headquarters over the years, the topic of boosting our income has never come...

Debris Removal Charge?? Permission From Dispatch??

Let's pretend that when I made that delivery to that hospital I scraped the back of my hand on a door and got a bleeding cut when moving the cart through. If I asked someone who had the power to provide it for the simple favor of giving me a band-aid, do you think I would have received one...

Debris Removal Charge?? Permission From Dispatch??

Sigh... I have mentioned in several posts in this thread that the person in question was NOT A NURSE. She (female) was the director of a research project. Not to open another aspect (can of worms) of this event -- oh well, why not. OK then, to open another aspect of this event, offering a...
