Mike, they're talking accounting versus strategy. For these old geezers what they say is fine. For us young bucks, you need to set aside what would be a payment so you have the money to replace your van.

TK, are you suggesting he should spend the money to get authority (with no direct customers) but to save a few bucks by filling out the paperwork himself ? I believe he's in Ca and insurance there is very costly.

    Where Are Rates Really?

My point was I wouldn't see you and Diane entering in 1995 with primarily manual transmissions, low quality APUs, etc. If you were doing research now I don't think your numbers would have you leave careers to enter the expediting industry. You were lucky that this came around in the time...

    Is it worth it?

People may come back and speak of good months or good quarters. Who cares ? When I look at numbers it's usually a rolling 12 month average. I have bills/ expenses all 12 months of the year.

    Is it worth it?

Simply, $1.25 X .40=50 cents per paid mile. For high end stuff maybe 75 cents per loaded mile. How many miles did straight truck drivers do last year ? All PAID miles divided by 52 ? Few will say 3000 paid miles per week.

    Is it worth it?

Reading around today, the Load One forum and FedEx Flat Rate threads makes me wonder why people say $1500 a week is so doable in a straight anymore. Also, if a guy is out 3 and home one, as is/was somewhat typical, that works out to $4500 each 4 weeks. What good is it if you can't afford to go...

    Where Are Rates Really?

Phil, you guys were at the right place at the right time. There was money many years prior but you came in when technology made trucking so easy a caveman could do it. And comfort began reaching new levels. About the time you left Green had begun it's P T Barnum style of management. Just by...

    Where Are Rates Really?

Really ? I'd be leery of putting a D out at $1.25 all miles. To be excited about less confuses my simple mind. Oh well, different strokes for different folks.

    Where Are Rates Really?

At flat rate, all that would matter is miles. $1.25 deadhead also one would presume.

Looking for work - felony, completed parole over 16 years ago

If you go to the home page, tap on each Carrier, you'll get info on each carrier. One item is will they hire with a felony. I checked two. Got one yes and one no. Oddly, the Carrier that will hire with a felony is probably the better of the two. It may have to deal with their customer base...
