How Expediting has changed from 20 years ago.

I remember that Lawrence. I also remember having a 2251 mile load time out on me because of those C-link pagers. That was the worst feeling to find out you just lost a great load.

    Looking For Advice

I would find a Load1 van or Sprinter Owner to drive for as Load1 pays the best for Vans and Sprinters. If you have a Class B CDL try Panther as we do very well with them running teams in our trucks. If you want to run solo I would say Load1 as our Load1 solo driver does very good with them.

The Truck is sold. That is the fastest I have ever seen a truck sell.

    How do teams get paid?

Yea I would say you have been pretty lucky getting 40% as a solo. I really don't like our trucks running solo as it has been a lost for us a we pay the fuel. I feel it's not profitable to put a solo in a new truck at all to be honest even at 30%. We have only had one solo driver that has done...

Moot I remember those Rooms. The Old TA in Perrysburgs had rooms upstairs you could get really cheap.

    How do teams get paid?

As for vans I don't see how you can make it unless you own the van. That is the reason we don't own vans. We would sign on vans to our fleet for owner operators that drive their vans. I have seen to may times where two guys in a van aren't making it. Drive a straight truck if you want to make...

    How do teams get paid?

Most owner pay drivers 60% of the gross to the truck and 100% of the FSC. The drivers then pay the fuel, tolls and road taxs. Then you have some owners like me that pays a team 40% of the line haul and 100% of any hand load. We get 60% of the gross to the truck and 100% of the FSC and pay all...

    building a roll up door

You can order the door panels from a door company and put them on yourself. I would say this is your best bet as it would cost you more money in the long run to try to build your own panels that may not last you as long. The panels come with the seals that you need to keep water out.

How Expediting has changed from 20 years ago.

Not really, a full rate C load was $1.31 per mile and a full rate D load was $1.41 per mile. We got .10 a mile for deadhead after 100 miles. Back in 1995 they changed the percentage at Robert Express from 65% going away from home and 46% going toward home to 58% for all loads. Most of the loads...

    Cat C7 white smoke

Our trucks wouldn't throw a code most of the time when it did this Dave. Why I don't know. I just know the high pressure fuel sensor was the cause every time.

How Expediting has changed from 20 years ago.

Most of the Expedite drivers today don't remember how Expediting was twenty years ago. Expediting has came a long way since the days of Que pagers, Qualcom pagers, and paper log books. Expediters now have cell phones, Expediters Online, bigger sleepers with trucks that will do almost anything...

    Cat C7 white smoke

Cats are known for the High Pressure Fuel Sensors going bad. The white smoke after idling is from not having the RPM's turned up to 10 to 12 on the tachometer. When Idling you need to have the RPM's turn up to get enough oil up to the head. The smoke you see is from the oil getting up to the...

    CARB may loosen rules

What they should do is make it 10,000 miles a year until 2020. 95% of the trucks by then will have everything that California is asking truck owners to have on their trucks anyway. It's a Win/Win for everyone.

Best straight truck on the market?

I agree with you on this John. We have a few of each kind of trucks except a Peterbelt. Freightliner has been the best fit for our needs over all. We all know that trucks have breakdowns as it's part of the business with the miles we turn every month. We have our own repair shop so it is easier...
